Vitamin D Deficiency in 1/4 Toddlers Could Delay Walking

According to a new research, one in four toddlers in the UK do not have sufficient vitamin D levels, and the deficiency could be causing the kids to experience a delay in walking, muscle weakness, and bone pains. The importance of vitamin D seems to be spreading at a fast pace, but many parents and even health professionals still need to do a little bit more research when it comes to obtaining and maintaining sufficient vitamin D levels.

Optimal Vitamin D Levels Important for Everyone, Especially Children

A vitamin D deficiency can lead to numerous health consequences for both children and adults, but individuals tend to utilize the information more for their children. While parents are turning to questionable flu vaccines to protect their children from influenza, a much more inexpensive and safer solution is readily available – vitamin D. Vitamin D3, even when taken in low daily dosages, has been found to slash your risk of developing the flu by 42%. If optimal ranges of vitamin D intake were utilized, the percentage would most likely climb much higher.

In a similar vein, vitamin D taken during pregnancy can protect infants from many viruses. Infants who are deficient in vitamin D at birth have a 6 times higher chance of getting RSV (or respiratory syncytial virus) during their first year of life compared to infants with very high levels of vitamin D.

Of course this information also points to the significance of proper vitamin D levels for expecting mothers. One study in Pediatrics reported that 58 percent of newborns and 36 percent of mothers were vitamin D deficient. The research also noted that while sunlight helped the mother obtain vitamin D, newborns were not benefited by the extra sunlight with extra vitamin D. It is of course recommended that infants receive their vitamin D through a supplement in liquid form.

While vitamin D deficiencies have exploded over the past 10 years, that very problem has helped to ignite the extensive research put into vitamin D over the same time period. Learn what the optimal daily dosage of vitamin D is for you and your children so that you can take advantage of the amazing benefits right away.
