Ginger Shows Promise in Reducing Prostate Cancer Tumors
Ginger, a common spice found in many kitchens worldwide, has been used for centuries in traditional medicine for its potential health benefits. Recent scientific studies have begun to explore the potential therapeutic properties of ginger, particularly in relation to prostate cancer. One such study provides valuable insights into the potential therapeutic effects of ginger on prostate cancer cells.
In the study, titled “Benefits of Whole Ginger Extract in Prostate Cancer” and published in the British Journal of Nutrition, whole ginger extract was revealed to shrink prostate tumor size by a whopping 56% in mice.
Key Findings
- Growth Inhibition: The study found that whole ginger extract might inhibit the growth of prostate cancer cells. This suggests that ginger could potentially play a role in prostate cancer management.
- Dosage and Effect: The research indicated that the effects of ginger extract were dose-dependent. This means that the impact varied based on the amount of extract used.
- Safety Profile: The study also highlighted that ginger extract exhibited a good safety profile, meaning it did not show significant adverse effects at the dosages tested.
Researchers conclude with:
“Remarkably, daily oral feeding of 100 mg/kg body weight of GE inhibited growth and progression of PC-3 xenografts by approximately 56 % in nude mice, as shown by measurements of tumour volume.
Tumour tissue from GE-treated mice showed reduced proliferation index and widespread apoptosis compared with controls, as determined by immunoblotting and immunohistochemical methods.
Most importantly, GE did not exert any detectable toxicity in normal, rapidly dividing tissues such as gut and bone marrow.
To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report to demonstrate the in vitro and in vivo anticancer activity of whole GE for the management of prostate cancer.“
GE is whole ginger extract.
The anticancer properties were observed in addition to ginger’s role in reducing inflammation as well as being a rich source of life-enhancing antioxidants.
Conventional Treatments Falling Short
This is great news and will hopefully lead to further research into ginger’s anticancer properties. Conventional treatments, while the most popular, are unfortunately falling short for many. In some cases, these treatments have even been shown to aggravate cancer even more.
According to scientists Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, some premium priced drugs were little more than death sentences for many patients.
“Whatever manipulations we’re doing to tumors can inadvertently do something to increase the tumor numbers to become more metastatic, which is what kills patients at the end of the day,” said study author Dr. Raghu Kalluri.
These drugs are considered to be the scientifically proven solution by health officials.
Ginger and Its Therapeutic Properties
Ginger, scientifically known as Zingiber officinale, is not just a flavorful addition to dishes but also boasts a rich history in traditional medicine. In addition to helping manage prostate cancer, it has been used to treat various ailments, from digestive issues to inflammation.

A Balanced Perspective
While the findings of the study are promising, it’s crucial to approach them with a balanced perspective. The research was conducted in a laboratory setting, and the effects observed might not necessarily translate to real-world scenarios.
Always consult with healthcare professionals before making any decisions regarding treatment or supplementation.
My favorite side dish at Chinese restaurants has always been Kim Chi – lots of ginger. Knew there was a reason.
A friend of mine recently passed away from very aggressive cancer. Just prior to his passing, he was being treated with these drugs, to the tune of $17,000 per day in the hospital. I went to visit him; I got the impression that neither the doctor nor anyone else there had determined that such a course would extend his life, but they want the money.
Ginger, turmeric, and many others natural foods. All of these are way better than chemo which actually kills the patient.
Well Chemo didn't kill this patient! I had leukaemia 6 years ago which was killed off after several months of chemo. It came back, and was seen off for good by more chemo and a bone marrow transplant.
Cancers kill people. Chemo kills cancer cells. Unfortunately it also damages other parts of the body which is why people sometimes die while they're having chemo treatment. The thing to remember is that they were already well on the way to dying of cancer or they wouldn't be getting the chemo in the first place
Flippertie, I would very much like to discuss your luekemia – I was diagnosed with CLL (chronic lymphocytic leukemia – which is actually cancer of the blood since your bone marrow is where your red and white blood cells and platelets are made)in late Oct 2010 via bone marrow biopsy – to date I am not being treated with any meds or chemo – drs have discussed and decided against any treatments – mine is a watch and wait situation right now – until white blood counts get into the 100's of thousand their will be no treatment such as you had – chemo and bone marrow transplant but that will be the treatment when necessary – i am interested in what type of leukemia you had and what your white blood count was that doctors went forward with chemo and bone marrow transplant – in the meantime I'm trying to do all I can through health food, herbs, supplements etc.
LadyC, I'm in the same boat as you. I was diagnosed in early 2009 with CLL. Right now the doctors are monitoring my blood counts and I have a white cell count of 25000. The doctors told me they don't necessarily look at at the white cell count. They have said they don't look at a particular count and that is when they will start treating me. The white cell count can be very high, and may not start treating me. They ask me how I'm feeling, have I had infections, am I tired, have you been sick, etc. They have a patient with a white cell count of 200000 and has had the disease for over 15 years, yet she feels fine and they are not treating her. I feel ok, but I'm tired. I have been taking supplements, turmeric, and trying to eat healthy. I will start taking ginger. One thing, have you noticed if your skin starting turning a yellish tint? My skin starting changing a few months before I was diagnosed. The doctors told me there is no connection, but I think it is too much of a coincidence. If you have any suggestions in dealing with this, please let me know.
I've just been diagnosed with AML (leukemia)- no known cure – they watch my white blood cell count – no chance of bone marrow transplant because of my age – right now things are pretty good – just started taking ginger but have been doing lemon juice for a few years just because – have pretty much always eaten organic – if things start to go wrong the doctor said it will be very fast – no Chemo – so it's really up to me but I guess it's the same with everybody – doctors diagnose and you take care of whatever – I have a naturopath and a homeopath – we all work together – any ideas from anyone would be greatly appreciated.
As far as your skin turning yellow – maybe too much turmeric – does your doctor know you're taking it??
Great post. 🙂 Thanks-
Ginger and tumeric are both used in dhal, the indian soup. Indian food seems to be the most healthy in the world.
Interesting, Prof. Yingqing Zhang years ago identified ginger and turmeric as ECIWO differentiation promoters that aid in cancer treatments.
Ginger can be grown outdoors if you plant it after all danger of frost has passed. Get some healthy looking, not shriveled, ginger from your supermarket. Cut into 2" pieces with at least one growing point on each piece. Let the cut ginger dry a day before planting it in some loamy soil in full sun. It's a slow grower. Dig before heavy frosts set in.
Planting ginger sounds like an optimistic thing to do.
I have Padget's breast cancer. I guess it is rare. Can't find much about it.

Tea made with fresh ginger is delicious. I store it in the freezer and just grate it into a cup of hot water.
My problem bladder cancer, have had radiation treatment which failed, several attempts at surgery now the objective seems to be "keep me comfortable for the rest of my time" which is i don't know.
no pain, lack of sleep due to visits to bathroom which of course reduces my strength, any suggestions? i like the ginger idea does it work.
WHERE YOU taking Actose or any other mediation/drug ? it is possible the cancer is a consequence of a drug. you should take: turmeric with your meals (anticancer properties) ginger and cinnamon are anti inflammatory. DO NOT EAT -NO MILD PRODUCTS, no red meat, ok organic vegetables. use an infrared pillow or pad (cancer does not like heat)
HACRES – Love this diet!!!!!
11 years breast cancer free.
What have you been doing?
Ginger is a Alkaline forming food which is what you want .No disease cannot survive in an alkaline body. Baking soda is excellent also because it has a PH of 14 One teaspoon in a glass of water early morning and before sleep plus ginger even fresh lemon juice in water over the day . Look up foods that are alkaline and eat them. No coffee, alcohol or tea unless green tea because they are high acidic
Add blackstrap molasse to your soda
At age 52 I was feeling prostate problems and this was reducing the pleasure intensity of my seminal ejaculation.
I have been using an electronic gadget called a Magnetic Pulser invented by Robert Beck Phd (rest his soul) — from Sota Instruments of Canada, now for 12 years.
I now own two units and will buy a third unit at about $400 incl freight. I use it daily up to 4 times, each a 20 minute session. I sit on it and pulse a little back from my balls, aimed upwards to my prostate. I have completely regained the pleasure intensity at 68 and can ejaculate 3 times a day, if called upon a couple of times a week and with pleasure!! Obviously I don't do that often!
I also pulse my left hip joint daily — an old judo injury over 30 plus years. I have now nursed this hip injury for longer than 12 years and do not travel without my pulser — we travel 6 weeks a year.
The intense magnetic pulse every 8 seconds or so, promotes blood supply and circulation thru old tissue surrounding my hip knuckle and the prostate is essentially a muscular donut — on aging it looses its flexibility due to not enough blood circulation — your doctor won't believe this story, so don't bother!! I happen to think that 75% of doctors are fools who don't and can't think for themselves.
A med school course is like a very tough and very long basic military training where thinking is beaten out of you. to be a doctor you must have a near photographic memory. This purposely intense course and mind control training does not promote thinking and only less that 25% of graduates survive the grueling years and are still able to actually think and explore how the human body really works — and its not a chemical mechanical living robot!! Is that news to you ?
On average I get up 3 times at night and do push to piss. By the morning the stream on going to b'fast is free. During the night, I do push and have now developed a strong stream which is not continuous. If I pulse my P say, 3 to 4 times during the day a good stream does develop (one gets a bit lazy and I don't often get to 3, as I also must pulse my hip etc — I'm human and will take shortcuts.
Remember I've been pulsing for 12 years — I'm not sure what the outcome might have been had I started 10 years or so later!!
I use 7 small dymium magnets (you can easily use 10 to 12 for more affect) on a band around my knee — I can wear it for months day and night (an old judo injury just like a football injury). I can take it off and the pain will come back after some days — then one simply wears it anew!! One simply buys the magnets 8mm dia x 1mm thick and sews them into a heavy cloth tape/band with velcro — the pole facing the skin must attract North on a compass — all
poles must face the one way!! This is very important!
Yes I take Vitamin C (4000mg a day) and other vitamins and minerals. The most improtant metal I take is Magnesium Chloride — believe it or not, a food supplement — on the European scale its in the eary 500's. This invogorated my health and life markedly. My dumb heart specialist, lets call him Nick the Greek of PortMac (the US specialist was just as bad), charged thousands of dollars for testing my heart's LVH, gave me some statistics, made no suggestions on how one might ameliorate this condition, what vitamin or supplement or to his eternal shame, what pharmaceutical — No! Recommended nothing — of course had me sign a waver in case I dropped dead during the procedure (and he still would have got paid)!!
As I said, most doctors are dumb and useless and have no interest in their patients health and wellbeing — just their stock portfolio and that's taken a beating!! Mine didn't because I had my money invested capital guaranteed on the kindly advice of my client and friend Graham Nicholson ex of Merchantile Mutual Life, taken over by the Dutch ING who have lost lots of gilder.
Anyway, enough of my pratteling — you are lucky I'm not usually so talkative — must be feeling kindly perverse tonight. Good night!
… and if you have to ask is ginger good for you — then mate, you have a long way to go!!!!!!!

Hi DENNIS, I’ve started drinking a tea with ginger in it, since I have been drinking this (about a quart a day) I don’t get up as much to go at night.
Hi Dennis, perhaps you should research and try the Gerson Therapy. It is an all natural treatment. They are located in Tijuana, Mexico but it is a treatment institute created by Dr. Gerson, who is an American doctor.
I had surgery for Stage2 colon cancer – nearly at Stage3 and several months of chemo that made me very sick at the time. It's been over 4 years and no sign of cancer, yet. I have changed my diet to organic to the extent possible, no longer eat junk food of any kind, eat lots more fruits and veges, make my own mixes, never buy prepared food from anywhere, cut back drastically on meat and only buy organic when I eat meat. As soon as I became strong enough, i began my own organic garden and can/freeze for the winter.I also drink a lot of filtered water. Could never prove scientifically that diet change has contributed greatly to my continued cancer-free life, but i feel much better on this diet and will continue.
Fresh RAW GINGER gives the best results. There might be capsules with ginger extract, but the problem is you have no way to know which ones are still potent (due to processing).
Enjoy!
🙂
I have personal experience with ginger curing cancer. It saved my dog's life. Dylan, my 105 lb Giant Schnauzer had lymphatic leukemia. It was his second cancer that year. He was on a rotating course of 4 drugs, 1 each week with a week off before the next rotation. At the time I was doing a lot of research on alternative treatments. I ran across ginger and started adding it to his diet, 2 times a day. In 2 weeks he was clear of cancer. The vet tech then told me he should have died 3 times during his treatment his numbers were so low. Some of the other things I used, a variety of amino acids and other antioxidants helped keep him strong and alive until I found the ginger.
I should have kept Dylan on the ginger. Unfortunately, another cancer came on very aggressively and in days Dylan was too far gone to help.
All I can say is I know that Ginger helped significantly and now I eat a good sized slice of fresh ginger 3-4 times a day. Ginger is great for many other things. It's anti bacterial, anti fungal, anti viral, anti inflammatory, helps peripheral neuropathy, helps sore throats and both sinus and chest congestion, is a great source of antioxidants and god knows what else it helps. This should be considered a super food.
Hi Scott, sorry to read that you lost Dylan.
My dog Molly has just been diagnosed with cancer she weighs 15 Kgs roughly 32 pounds. How much ginger were you using and how much do you think I would use. I read that to much ginger can upset dogs.
Thanks
Frank
No worries, it is not difficult to cook with ginger. Just cut a slice, peel it and grate it to add to your cooked or soaked grain breakfast with tasty cinnamon and a little bit of salt, or to a (carrot) smoothie (cool drink). Grated or chopped you can heat it together with a blend of flavoury spices and/ or onion and/or garlic in quality olive or sesame oil medium heat, or ghee. Either you add the oil and spice mix to your meal or soup, or you use the mix and add ingredients to prepare curries (try squash, tomatoes and spinach, yum) or soups. Apart from the benefits of ginger and spices, you will have lots of flavour and joy as well, no pill will give you this effect. Enjoy!
Fresh is best! Look up recipes.. Especially asian soups & dishes–we use a lot of ginger ;]
I got very sick from overdosing on fresh ginger while trying to use to reduce serious inflammation. It was not an amount you would have thought of as an over dose either, but like 3-4 fairly strong cups of tea for just over a week. I was quite surprised. And I could not eat it for several years afterward. I had to look hard to find the fact that you can overdose on it but it's true.
My husband has just been diagnosed with stage 2-3 colon cancer. Like ShaleW he will go through the standard treatment and then eat really well. He had eaten poorly for a very long time before I met him and the changes he made were too gradually to make up for it…but he knows better now.
Many cancers can metastasize very readily on their own…and is why the disease is so dangerous and deadly…Any cancer cells that survive radiation and chemo mutate (which is what cancer is, a mutation ) to something that can then survive the treatments..so it becomes like super cancer. This is why to they go to great lengths to try and get it all the first time around
Sorry for your experience with the ginger. I wonder if your reaction may have been due to any chemicals on the ginger; rather than the ginger itself. I've read that its important to use organic ginger, as ALOT of the stuff out there is from China, and HEAVILY HEAVILY sprayed with pesticides.. :/
Suesita, sorry to hear about your challenges with Ginger. I too suspect that it was not the Ginger you OD'd on, rather some other element. Cancer is insidious and is a reflection of a body too acidic and as you mentioned, a reaction to body's that do not eat correctly (GMO, High Fructose Corn Syrup, chemicals found in artificial everything from sweeteners to plastic foods). Cancer does not become super cancer, that is a myth. Radiation and chemo BOTH DESTROY all the tissue/cells it comes in contact with, INCLUDING good tissue and cells. Radiation is like your microwave, so it literally cooks and kills any tissue it comes in contact with.
I would highly suggest reading through some of the good comments here and considering now taking your health and wellness into your OWN hands, if you wish to live and reclaim a quality life. You CAN do that. There are successful alternatives like CHANGING your DIET, from microbiotic to vegentarian, all NON GMO, Laughter, DE-STRESS, Balancing out your body and CREATING an Alkalized environment IN your body. CANCER CAN NOT LIVE IN ANY ENVIRONMENT THAT IS PROPERLY ALKALIZED. It Dies! Physicians have about 2 weeks nutrition education in med school. No wonder they don't know or care about these types of things. Our bodies are, in effect fine tuned machines and with all the GMO foods, Chemicals in environment, junk food etc they break down and do not function creating a happy place for things like Cancer to live.
Go buy some ginger root, cut in up, place in a small sauce pan and simmer it. I made some last night. And left it on the stove (shut off of course) all night. This morning a rich light brown tea, delicious. Been drinking ginger tea for years, my favorite!
Cayenne pepper is a great herb for a lot of ailments also, including cancer.
My mother was diagnosed of chronic lymphatic leukaemia nov 2012 and she is on her 5th round of chemo, she was placed on R-CHOP and rutixmab. The turmor will shrink and come back now she said she will not go for the 6th round. She just started taking ginger and garlic raw.
Namaste Blessing Mother
I am learning to cook with spices turmeric, curcumin, ginger, and many others. I am discovering a great new adventure with foods and don’t crave sugar the way I used to, either.
I did not know until recently that fresh ginger is most easily peeled with a spoon. Try it!
You can plant ginger root in a flower-pot and it will continue to grow. By doing this you will have truly fresh ginger. The leaves can be used to make tea.
Who should not take ginger?
Ask a doctor, pharmacist, herbalist, or other healthcare provider if it is safe for you to use this product if you have:
gallstones or any other disease of the gallbladder;
diabetes or if you are taking a medicine to control your blood sugar levels;
any heart problems or take any heart medicines;
a bleeding or blood clotting disorder or are taking a medicine to increase or decrease the clotting of your blood such as aspirin, warfarin (Coumadin), or heparin; or
if you take other herbs, antioxidants, or health supplements (these may affect blood thinning).
Talk to your doctor before taking ginger if you have any other medical conditions, allergies (especially to plants), or if you take other medicines or herbal/health supplements. Ginger may not be recommended in some other situations.
It is not known whether ginger will harm an unborn baby. Tell your healthcare provider if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant while using this product.
It is not known whether ginger passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. Do not use this product without telling your healthcare provider if you are breast-feeding a baby.
Do not give any herbal/health supplement to a child without medical advice
Tumors, as such, are not the problem until they block blood flow. The body is designed (rule of thumb) to first protect the major organs once a pathogen has disrupted body chemistry. The body will first protect the heart and the brain….This is why it is rare to hear of a heart tumor or a brain tumor. The body will sweep infection (invasion, pathogens, toxins) into a place where it can deal with it temporarily until it builds its immune system for the greater war.
Unfortunately, the diets often recommended to a cancer patient are similar or the same as those recommended for healthy individuals. Grains, fruits, and vegetables is the normal route. It is also not the best route. Before cancer is induced the body derives energy through oxidation. Enzymes break down foods into sugars…fructose, galactose, sucrose. These sugars—>glucose–> ATP–Energy….however there is residual sugar or glucose remaining and this feeds the tumors. If tumors cannot feed they cannot grow. If the body is put into ketosis where the body is forced to derive energy by burning fat there is little sugar remaining to feed mutated cells. Cells cannot feed and they either die or they convert back to their rightful shape–> then they leave the tumor collection and return to work for the health of the body. When one is healthy one derives energy Enzymes—break down foods–>sugars—glucose—>ATP—>energy by means of OXIDATION.
When one has cancer his body chemistry is like a ruminant deriving energy through fermentation which fuels and flares misshaped cells……Enzymes–> break down food–> sugars ferment—bad cells are fed through fermentation robbing the body of energy yet growing the cancer.
The ASSUMPTION THAT WHAT DIET IS GOOD FOR A HEALTHY PERSON IS GOOD FOR A PERSON WITH CANCER IS A DREADFUL ASSUMPTION.
1) high protein
2) no fruits
3) no sugar
4) no carbonated water
5)no white flour
6) lots of water with lemon
7) greens or broccoli every day
8) maintain electrolyte balance with calcium and magnesium
I would like to give an explanation, which I read in “what is cancer” by professor Zajicek. Cancer is a by product of virus infection. The year to remember is 1954. The French Health Committee was about to declare, that cancer is a viral disease. One of the ideas, in the above mentioned site, is that a carcinogen causes the depletion of stem cells. At the very beginning this is compensated by a minor tumor and patient despite some fatigue feels healthy. At
this stage if the deficiency is restored, tumor may regress. With time the deficiency may grow and so does the tumor. Tumor is a new organ, fully controlled and fully nourished by the organism. It is assumed that stem cells also secrete a vital substance to sustain tissue and prevent Cachexia (body wasting manifested by weight loss). One may consider tumor as a factory to produce the missing proteins due to stem cells loss. This factory, so to speak, is not as efficient as the original depleted stem cells and quality is traded
for quantity. All along neoplastic progression the organism triggers many protect and repair strategies against the virus and its damage in order to sustain life.
Japan is a country built on a volcano that has erupted and caused more than one nuclear waste leak. Their high cancer rates are from constant nuclear spills. It is great that you had chemo and remain alive to tell us; we are all thankful for that. Yet you are not the only person who has recovered from cancer and from chemo; neither are you the only person who has ever been treated for cancer. And many people have had greater results from alternative treatments. Where I live the stats show alternative treatments to be far greater than contemporary medicine. People have cancer for a variety of reasons including many cancers that are directly caused by prescribed drugs. Have you studied the chemical ingredients in ginger? Have you surveyed or contacted the people who have successfully used ginger? Have you compared natural remedies for critical disease with chemo? In laboratory tests ginger (in the ground powdered form) was effective in reducing tumor size more than 70%—-higher than any manufactured drug. Argue with theories; but no need to argue with what has been discovered and in more than one laboratory test.
and how is she now?
I find it funny that everyone thinks that because good results showed in lab mice that it wont work in humans. Hello..people. Don’t you realize every new drug on the market is tested on lab mice before your doctor writes the prescriptionn!!!
Yes I agree with RS , Im 70 years old and remember when i was young (in the UK) grandma would keep a large herb garden and produce from that cured most of our ailments. All we had in those days for pain relief was Asprin. The local chemist would make up a concoction for anything else ( a bit like todays Chinese medicinal shops).
Now i live in North Borneo and witness how people here live off medicinal jungle plants.
Its time for a re appraisal of the entire Medicine Industry.
I like to add them to a juice like beetroot with whatever is in the fridge and an apple. Tasty and quite hot!
I did not know this about Ginger, does it work for bph as well? my dad drinks green tea, eats vegetables and he did quit drinking alcohol; and he also takes alpharise for his frequent urination and low libido problems, it has been great on him.
Interesting. I have prostate cancer and have tried many things, but have concluded that lemon in water, turmeric, ginger, and a whole food diet with very little meat and heavy on raw fruit and vegetables to help reduce my PSA numbers. Ginger seems to be the biggest enemy of cancer. Also I take cayenne, vitamin d, and b 12 supplements.
Rutixmab is very toxic and usually causes severe allergies. It is made of humanized mouse antibodies and has a lot of side effects.
