A billion dollars would feed a lot of people for a very long time, but instead, Monsanto will spend this absurd amount of money to build a new plant in Luling, Louisiana to produce weed-killing, and health-damaging dicamba.
In an effort to expand its business after glyphosate was declared likely carcinogenic by the WHO, Monsanto has announced that it will focus on an alternative herbicide – dicamba. While the EPA only considers dicamba to be ‘mildly toxic’ thus far, and it has been used since the 1960s, research does link the chemical to colon cancer and lung cancers.
It is also very similar in its chemical make up to 2,4-D, another herbicide which was recently called ‘possibly carcinogenic’ by the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC).
Though while the warnings for this herbicide were less alarming than those for the other-tested pesticides Lindane and DDT, the researchers did still called 2 ,4,-D, possibly carcinogenic. They also reported that it caused oxidative stress as well as a suppressed immune response, which are both known health conditions that support the development of cancer.
Monsanto will likely spend up to $1 billion to create a production facility that can make up for its failed Round Up, which has caused super weeds to grow throughout farms in the Midwest and across the US.
The plant is expected to be built over the next three to five years, and will take place in a part of Louisiana that has been responsible for making glyphosate for years.
It should be noted that Monsanto still has not taken any responsibility for polluting farms and tables everywhere with glyphosate. Traces of the herbicide have even been found in breast milk and fetal tissues.
“Approximately 1 billion pounds of pesticides are sprayed on crops in the United States alone every single year. Thanks to pesticide/herbicide-resistant GMO crops, that number is growing every year. Much of this pesticide spraying contains a toxic ingredient known as glyphosate – the primary poisonous active ingredient in Monsanto’s best-selling herbicide Round Up. Regulators as well as Monsanto claim that this ingredient is excreted from the body, but numerous studies have shown that not only is it causing numerous health problems, but it is showing up in urine samples, blood samples, and even breast milk.”
Nonetheless, with numerous countries and communities banning or at least restricting glyphosate’s use, apparently, Monsanto sees this as a time to switch its business model to the creation of yet another toxic concoction.
A company investing in a factory now isn’t that strange? Monsanto has also been talking about the Dicamba soybeans for years, but Chrissy still acts like it is something new and shocking!!! She must not be able to keep up on current events.
With Monsanto’s horrible track record of destroying the environment, I’m not surprised. They are a chemical warfare company, pure and simple. Real GM supporters dislike Monsanto intensely, and with their stocks in freefall, hopefully it will disappear forever and open up the industry to companies who actually have better intentions.
True a lot of farmers don’t like them, but they still buy from them. We do not sell Monsanto products as we think there are better companies to deal with like BASF and Dow. That being said I still do have a lot of respect for them. I remember in the nineties when Monsanto was almost broke and everyone thought they weren’t long for the world. LOL, now look at them. As for disappearing now? Your company that is in so much trouble is looking to take out one the their biggest competitors, Sygenta, in a multi billion dollar deal. If they can accomplish this it will really change the landscape of American Agriculture. They will have almost a 50% seed share and a chemical base that no others can come close to.
Yes, this is what I worry about, when large companies buy up other large companies or a bunch of smaller companies like Microsoft did, or what Google as been doing or what the big telecoms have done.
No doubt respect them for how they have managed to stay so far ahead, but also love the idea of more competition, which will drive down prices and lead to more innovation more quickly. I dont think any of us (farmers or consumers) want one or a small number of companies dominating the whole field. More competition is better for all of us.
New GM crops will render all pesticides meaningless, as they wont require ANY pesticides, this will remove GM from the stranglehold of Monsanto and Bayer and their horrible track record with PCBs, Agent Orange, and DDT
Hope you are right. I would love to see pesticides go away, it would be the best for everyone. However, today they are needed to produce the food to feed the world. The other thing is that is those new gmo crops ever do come about it will most likely be from one of the companies that you don’t like.
Possibly, but I think not having to use patented pesticides will open the market up to more competition, and that can only be a good thing for future advancement.
I like to think of it this way, when AMD started to give Intel competition, CPUs developed much more quickly and their prices went down.
A more open market with many competitors is to the benefit of scientific advancement and to all of us 🙂
Spoke a friend of mine who works in the industry, this is what he said:
The pesticide thing is tricky. They have developed a GM potato that resists potato blight by inserting 2 genes from 2 types of wild potato (that could not be bred in), but there is already resistance to these plants being cultivated. They’ve also added a spinach gene to orange trees to resist citrus greening, these are also facing much resistance. I mention these because they offer a pesticide free solution to 2 huge agricultural problems which are now currently only controllable with insecticides. The Florida citrus industry alone has to spray massive amounts to control the Asian Citrus Psyllid, which spreads the citrus greening virus. The new orange trees would make that spraying unnecessary. And then there is the GM American Chestnut, where they inserted the genes from the Chinese Chestnut which allows it to resist blight. This will most certainly go into production within the year, with some serious backing to reintroduce these trees to eastern forests.
Well at least now a lot of people are wise to the way they do business
Wow what a revelation a chemical company building a factory to make and sell chemicals. I’m glad Chrissy spelled it out for morons like you.
Sharp as a marble Bobo! If you didn’t get the news flash all those GMO studies are now null and void! I think you had to much glyphosate from yo mammies titties! That explains your Forrest Gump IQ!!!
It takes more than your lying mouth to make them void, billions eating them daily with zero issues would beg to differ. Of course it is “news” to you that a chemical company would build a factory to make chemicals!! I guess that never crossed the mid of a simpleton.
That’s right Bobo, you just keep rearranging them deck chairs on the Titanic, and keep saying to yourself this “ships unsinkable.”
STUPID IS AS STUPID SAYS
Yes that sums up your arguments, thanks for playing. LOL, maybe someday you can actually list some real testing, oh wait you can’t because those all show the safety of gmos.
Don’t say I’ve never gave you anything. At least I put up some real proof, all you do is Bobo says so.
Lab test samples contaminated worldwide
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QoHJ7k-XSz8
all the real testing you are referring to troll..is done by or funded by your friends Monsanto over a period of 90 days only, look at the results of the tests and studies that go on longer then 90 days troll…and see the real damage to life this poison causes…get a life!
I have actually experienced real life feeding of gmos on livestock farms for twenty years now through multiple generations all without your horror stories and confirming the safety. Again why spread lies?
Great Job, Christian, for keeping inform to those have not heard about this dangerous hebicides and GMO foods. Monsatan is evil and terrorist corporation, that doesn’t care about the health issue that is cause from these GMO foods and Glyphosate. All they care about making millions of dollars, and the same time poisoning humanity.
What kind of fool calls it a “New” herbicide when it has been used for over fifty years? Chrissy that’s who!!
Why aren’t the citizens of Luling, Louisiana up in arms over Monsanto building a plant producing another toxic pesticide that will kill the environment, including humans.
All American citizens, and especially the residents of Luling, Louisiana should be up in arms over
the building of another Satanic establishment. Monsanto is Satan in disguise. Not Stopping Satan is going to be devestating. Doing nothhing is being p0art of Satan’s Armyu. Let’s start forcing our politicians to listen to us and rid this country of Monsanto and all the other Satanic Bio-tech Corporations.
The people of Luling are probably more than happy to welcome a new factory with high paying jobs. The government is happy because dicamba is a lot safer than some of the alternative pesticides. Why do YOU wish to do satan’s work and not have people fed?
you are a brainless idiot..go back to MSNBC…
Yes to you people that want to feed the world good food at affordable prices probably is an idiot.
Actually GMO Roberts is not a brainless idiot. Modern agriculture using conventional methods can barely keep up with worldwide demand for food. Organic methods on average produce 20% less than conventional methods.
Which 20% of the world would you like to see go hungry?
Thank you <3 For everything you continue to do all theses Years
I've just recently reposted this article realizing so many are still just waking up
.And of course to say THANK YOU Namaste Dear Sister <3 Big Hugs
