But now we know through this study, that glyphosate interferes with the microbial communities that form the basis for our digestive health, altering its complex functioning in a manner that interferes with the production of basic amino acids and neurohormones, giving the harmful bacteria carte blanche to run freely through our intestinal tracts.
The harmful bacteria in question? A highly pathogenic Clostridum botulinum strain, which:

Ok so your saying that a pesticide, I.e. Roundup, is causing a bacterial imbalance in our guts, ok fair enough, but what has that got to do with GMOs?

George, the pesticide, Roundup, is not just being applied to crops. It is being genetically introduced into the organism itself. This means you can’t wash it off or boil it out. GMO’s are poison.
Not to be rude, but I kinda have to point out that’s it’s quite literally impossible to genetically engineer or introduce an artificial pesticide into an organism as part of its natural makeup. GMO crops are however engineered to be resistant to roundup when applied externally.
I’m not arguing in support of a particular side here, but I’m afraid the article seems to have blatantly and quite possibly intentionally misrepresented the facts to make it seem like the harmful chemical in question, is coming from the GMO, which is not the case.
It’s not a pesticide it is BT, Bacillus thurengensis, a bacteria and it can most certainly be introduced into the cell. A bacteriaphage can happen in any organism. The Glyphosates are a byproduct of the spraying of pesticides that are required to grow GMOs.
It is certainly not helping our health!
GMO crops are not resistant to any Pesticide that Monsanto is putting out, this is why we have so many problems now. That people like you say this crap and expect people to believe in what you believe is going on. These major Corps. are poisoning us as fast as they can, to line their pockets. Not so, Gaian. Roundup contains glyphosate and gets sprayed onto crops. Bt is what you are thinking of as being part of the DNA of GMO crops.

It is in the Cellular of the plant, and then in turn sold to grocery stores, in which people buy food from, thinking it is safe to eat. Gaian was Right, and you are Wrong. GMO’s are bad for the Human Body!
Lesley: RoundUp (glyphosate) is not genetically inserted into the DNA of a plant. Glyphosate can, as you sort of noted, be taken up by a resistant plant but glyphosate itself has not been inserted into the gene cassette. Bt toxin, on the other hand, is inserted into the gene cassette (DNA) of certain crops such as Bt cotton or Bt corn. Of course GMOs are bad, as you noted.
debbie3554, I never said it was Inserted into anything, but things that are naturally being sprayed usually end up in the Cellular Level of the plant itself. And this is where it affects us, when it is harvested.
In other words, I was not and am not wrong in pointing out the original confusion between what is taken up into a cell and what is genetically inserted into a gene cassette and becomes part of the DNA of a plant.

The roundup is in the food. They now inject BT (bacillus thurengensis) a naturally occurring bacteria in nature, in the seed and the bacteria grows with the plant. This type of bacteria is not meant to be ingested. It wasn’t meant to be in the gut.
Interesting that they introduce the bacterium into the crop, but I think you misunderstood my reply to ‘gaian’, which was to point out that you cannot introduce an artificial pesticide (not the bacterium) into the genetic makeup of any organism, it simply wouldn’t work.
Introducing compounds or bacterium Into a cell however, is a completely different matter.
Roundup is indeed in the food, as would be expected, however to assert that roundup is required for all GMOs is a complete fallacy, Monsanto may well engineer their crops to be dependent on their branded pesticide, but that certainly isn’t a blanket rule for all or any gmo crop. Although I’ll aknowledge that they have a pretty good stranglehold on the market.
I think the amount of confusion seen in these comments is testament to how poor the accuracy and clarity of this article is, and how well it misrepresents the actual facts. There are plenty of serious questions to be answered about GMOs, however the Internet and the media at large is so rife with propaganda from both sides very few people seem to be actually informed as to the scientific facts. Although granted it’s pretty hard to get hold of the research article when the journals cost thousands for a subscription.
I didn’t say all GMO although I also didn’t specify otherwise. That’s wasn’t the point at all. Roundup is the most widely used herbicide in the world so it’s likely used to produce most GMO crops. Roundup is like crack to crop plants and farmers have to keep using it to remain effective against the resistance in nature.
I do agree the info presented here wasn’t worded so a uninformed reader would gain nothing from reading it. Its not easy to understand either so it’s really difficult to get this point across to unknowing people . In short, its complicated. As a society we’ve really let go any attachment to the food industry as it is much easier to not think about. I am not a doctor, just a person who has dealt with candida that I believe was caused by all the meds I was carelessly given as a child and teen. I’ve solved my issue by taking one pill a day.
