  1. Actually the author is a bit misinformed when it comes to Vitamin C dosing. 500 mg/day is a very small dose and will be essentially used up within 1 – 2 hours of consuming it, especially if the person is under some form of physical or mental stress.

It is remarkable that such a small dose achieved this result in this study, but I strongly suspect taking 2000 – 3000 mg with each meal ( 6 gram/day) would have far more benefits and is consistent with Dr. Linus Pauling’s Unified Theory of Atherosclerosis which postulated that atherosclerosis is a form of scurvy. It also has tremendous immune boosting benefits.

Of course regular exercise is a must to multiple the vascular benefits.

6000 mg/day is the amount I recommend all my heart patients take at a minimum in the Cardiac Rehab program I direct, and none has ever had any GI issues. It usually take doses in the 20 – 60 grams/day range to see any gas and/or diarrhea as the body can absorb quite a bit of Vitamin C if you space it out and take it throughout the day with food.

Dr. Pauling took 20 gram/day and lived to be 94 y/o.

I take both a slow release and regular vitamin C combo, 15,000 mg/day for many years now and have never had any GI issues.

Thanks BikeIce for the sensible and informed information. I take 16,000mg vitamin C per day and feel great.
