cornonspoon 235x147 Top 10 Worst GMO Foods for Your GMO Foods List

Genetically modified foods (GMO foods) have been shown to cause harm to humans, animals, and the environment, and despite growing opposition, more and more foods continue to be genetically altered. It’s important to note that steering clear of these foods completely may be difficult, and you should merely try to find other sources than your big chain grocer. If produce is certified USDA-organic, it’s non-GMO (or supposed to be!) Also, seek out local farmers and booths at farmer’s markets where you can be ensured that the crops aren’t GMO. Even better, if you are so inclined: Start organic gardening and grow them yourself. Until then, here are the top 10 worst GMO foods for your “do not eat” GMO foods list.

GMO Foods List: Top 10 Worst Foods

1. Corn

One of the most prominent GMO foods, avoiding corn is a no-brainer. If you’ve watched any food documentary, you know corn is highly modified. “As many as half of all U.S. farms growing corn for Monsanto are using genetically modified corn,” and much of it is intended for human consumption. Monsanto’s GMO corn has been tied to numerous health issues, including weight gain and organ disruption.

2. Soy

Found in tofu, vegetarian products, soybean oil, soy flour, and numerous other products, soy is also modified to resist herbicides. As of now, biotech giant Monsanto still has a tight grasp on the soybean market, with approximately 90 percent of soy being genetically engineered to resist Monsanto’s herbicide Roundup. In one single year, 2006, there was 96.7 million pounds of glyphosate sprayed on soybeans alone.

3. Sugar

According to NaturalNews, genetically-modified sugar beets were introduced to the U.S. market in 2009. Like others, they’ve been modified by Monsanto to resist herbicides. Monsanto has even had USDA and court-related issues with the planting of it’s sugarbeets, being ordered to remove seeds from the soil due to illegal approval.

4. Aspartame

Aspartame is a toxic additive used in numerous food products, and should be avoided for numerous reasons, including the fact that it is created with genetically modified bacteria.

5. Papayas

This one may come as a surprise to all of you tropical-fruit lovers. GMO papayas have been grown in Hawaii for consumption since 1999. Though they can’t be sold to countries in the European Union, they are welcome with open arms in the U.S. and Canada.

6. Canola

One of the most chemically altered foods in the U.S. diet, canola oil is obtained from rapeseed through a series of chemical actions.

7. Cotton

Found in cotton oil, cotton originating in India and China in particular has serious risks.

8. Dairy

Your dairy products may contain growth hormones, since as many as one-fifth of all dairy cows in America are pumped with these hormones. In fact, Monasnto’s health-hazardous rBGH has been banned in 27 countries, but is still in most US cows. If you must drink milk, buy organic.

9. and 10. Zucchini and Yellow Squash

Closely related, these two squash varieties are modified to resist viruses.

The dangers of some of these foods are well-known. The Bt toxin being used in GMO corn, for example, was recently detected in the blood of pregnant women and their babies. But perhaps more frightening are the risks that are still unknown. Even while these foods should be on your GMO foods list so that they are avoided, you can buy 100% organic to be safest.

With little regulation and safety tests performed by the companies doing the genetic modifications themselves, we have no way of knowing for certain what risks these lab-created foods pose to us outside of what we already know.

The best advice: steer clear of them altogether.

wheat and red beets, strawberries, papayas, etc…AND ABOVE SACCHARINE… CANCER causing specially on men. scientist know it from the 70′s, Reagan changed that by allowing it and changing its name.

If you want to insult others and think this is a bunch of bull, go somewhere else and comment. Some of us are concerned. Maybe the fact you don’t see it and are so angry stems from the fact that you consume GMO products.

Only two servings per week!!! Then what? Chicken? Fish that’s been nibbling on plastic? Nothing is safe unless you grow it and/or kill it.

    • elmer B. johnson

Even that isn’t safe. What are the animals that you kill eating? Monsanto corn? If the pollen from Monsanto crops are drifting into your garden then you have altered crops too.

And yet, the modification and use of pesticides increases yield and millions more people do not starve to death. And life expectancy keeps going up. Life doesn’t have much enjoyment when you starve to death. The US is such a rich country that only we could afford the luxury of complaining about the very things that save the lives of children all over the world. I think those starving people would rather just say, thank you for saving our lives by getting food to us.

  • Woof Barkington

well, there goes my vegetarian spaghetti (zuchinni and yellow squash). Just when you think you are on the right track Greed and Science form a tag team and squash you.

Buy organic. Problem solved, and it sends a message as well.

      • Woof Barkington

yes, i have been growing my own veggies for years now–Not the best gardner in the known veggieverse but I get by—I started growing my own stuff because you just can’t anything about produce in a store whether its good bad or evil. Farmers markets are ok but i have seen some vendors sneaking in non local produce—and companies will lie–that’s a given so how can you trust a label?

        • Lynnie

I started this year. Learning. They say the first year is pretty pitiful, but we do better after once we learn some things. I’m backing away from everything conventional that I can, starting with the main offenders. It’s all we can do when the corruption runs so deep. Good luck with your gardening!

          • Woof Barkington

I use raised beds and rotate what I am growing each year. Good luck with your gardening as well. Once you get the hang of it–you will find it very fulfilling. :- )

I love it when people say Mother Nature. Is there really a mother nature or did we genetically create her. Really the way God intended. Make sure you don’t Vaccinate your kids because that’s not what God intended. If people can live better through chemistry then that’s what we should do. We need to grow better and more abundant food supply for the ever growing human population. The truth is Organic causes more harm than non organic.

  • witzyful

I always thought mother nature knows knows best .Man has been in the way God intended it to for so long,we are tested constantly to keep our eyes ears focused cause some people dont care about about about only themselves .The NATURAL ORGANIC IS THE WAY TO GO

Sadly, as I read through the comments, they are split between Monsanto shills, or very ignorant people. Pointless replying.

  • Jim Coloma

so what did EU do to get GMO unfit for human consumption crap off their tables and markets?

  • Ryan C

All corn is GM, the only “corn” that is not GM is maze… Corn was GM centuries ago by natives. As well, unless your bananas are full of black seeds they are GM too. GM isn’t what’s bad, it’s how plants are GM. Seedless grapes and melons are GM as well, anything seedless is GM (How else would it reproduce in the wild, seedless plants were created by man and need man to survive).

  • Tom Shelhamer

I have a question, if someone can answer it. They say corn is one of the worst GMO’s out there. With all the products out there with corn in it how do you avoid consuming this stuff without spending your life savings trying to avoid using products containing corn byproducts.

    • Lynnie

You have to buy organic, grown from heirloom seeds. It is out there… there would be more it out there if more people would take all this seriously and demand organics, and grow more of their own, too. Some organics companies are also verifying their foods and what they grow with the Non-GMO Project. Look that up. There is a lot of info there about the whole thing, and how to know what you are buying.

  • TheWisendorf .

I live in an area where some of the farmers use GMO..Every year my corn get cross polinated with the crap..I have to buy new seeds every year.

  • TheWisendorf .

It just had a thought that may be our problem is genetically engineered politicians..

  • 5-D Rising

Heirloom seed vegetables of any sort are fine IF they are grown organically & not saturated in toxic fertilizers and pesticides. Real sugar will be clearly marked as Cane Sugar or Turbinado Sugar. Another good alternative is Coconut Sugar.

  • Roma Seiker

Not yet. GMO wheat has not hit the market yet. It IS being field tested.

    • Jo Parker

GM wheat is not commercialized. It’s not yet found in everyday foods. But the GMO industry is trying to commercialize it while skipping any real safety testing and buying off regulators to declare it safe. GM corn, of course, is already widely used in foods, as is GM soy. But GM wheat is not yet in the food supply. If we don’t resist the domination of the biotech industry, however, it soon will be.

        fuuck you bitch

While it is true that gmo wheat is being field tested, to date no gmo wheat has been approved for sale. Your issue is with gluten.

  • kitty 332

Oh good grief, vaccines are not your enemy. They are the greatest thing mankind has invented to prevent horrible debilitating diseases. You have obviously never seen anyone suffer from tetanus, mumps, measles etc, I have. It is a terribly painful thing for those who are unfortunate enough to not get vaccinated by their parents. Most are hospitalized, I’ve seen one boy be put into a coma to stop his body from seizing and cramping to prevent FURTHER brain damage. The real threat is people like you going around who are completely uneducated on the matter saying vaccines cause Cancer. You should be ashamed of yourself!

    • crusherhead

you dont have a clue what the real story is, hpv is from the polio vaccine, the US govt tried to develop cancer as a biological weapon, which was accidentally introduced in the polio vaccine in 1959-1962, the cancer rates in these people who got that vaccine is like 1 in 200 and also these vaccines were cultivated in monkey kidneys, the fastest cheapest way, hence AIDS

      • Kitty 332

Oh look, another paranoid, delusional conspiracy theorist. Go take your schizophrenic delusions to a psychologist. Cancer happens to many many people, not because of a vaccine. You are just bat shit crazy.

        • Jo Parker

do yourself a favor and close your ignorant mouth you only have 2 feet to put in there and its already cramped

      • cpmt

sorry to tell you but AIDS was accidentally or deliberatly ‘scape d’ from a Lab. In California in February 1981. I do remember hearing on the radio that gay men were infected with a possible virus or some kind of illness in (I believe) San Francisco and didn’t know what it was, how to treated it or how it was spread. few months later they had a name for it and they knew it was a virus, and close to a year they called AIDS. (two years later Africans were dying like flies ( and THE USA blame them for the infection and spread of the virus). Vaccines have nothing to do with Aids, even if the guilty LAB were tying to get a biological weapon with this virus, and it got out of control before they could find a antidote.

    • Tom

Thats right enjoy the Squalene immune system suppressing additive they now put in our vaccines. Why do you think doctors tell you you’ll probably get sick form the shot. Wake Up People.

    • Jo Parker

you are what I call a sheep oblivious to the harm you are suffering at the hands of and overpowered govt do some research

    • cpmt

several years ago vaccination was NOT dangerous. first because they didn’t give you 4 ,5, 6 different vaccinations a one time, 2nd. because BIG COMPANIES (power and $$$) didn’t exist and didn’t interfere in the process. (I don’t know but i do not think vaccines at that time had mercury or heavy metals etc)or other toxic components.

      • QuentonQuale

Vaccines have always had preservatives in them and still do. But you are correct in that the vaccine load on most kids these days is absurd. It can go as high as 25 vaccines before the kid is even in school. Each one having additives. Most unnecessary.

    • elmer B. johnson

What kind of mumps and measles were they getting? I had both of those and other children my age as well. and not a single one that I know of ever had to go to the hospital.

  • Et Th

time for a garden in the backyard

  • Terdferguson

Just avoid all food, medicine, water (did you know its actually a chemical named dihydrogen oxide?), sunlight, air (did you know its a combination of gasses which are also made of molecules that are also found in chemicals?) Your clothes are GMO cotton too. Better off not wearing any of those ever again. I go with pure polyester or nothing at all, both of which are equally hideous. Did you know that according for the criteria for #’s 9 and 10 you and I are GMOs too? Oh the humanity! Just how are we supposed to avoid ourselves? Dang you Monsanto!

  • Leslie Stone

Shop at certified organic farmer’s markets! They’re all over the place, even urban centers, and they’re generally much cheaper than grocery stores, because you’re skipping the middlemen.

  • joe

cancers in vaccines? you people are idiots. enjoy your diseases which are totally oreventable

    • kitty 332

Yes exactly. She is speaking on matters she obviously has no idea about.

  • Jason

If EVERY ONE purchased organic these evil companies and pratices would soon all go under, it is the public who give them the power and wealth so every one buy organic it is worth paying a little extra to keep your family safe and stop these evil people spreading their poison.
Try buying organic and you will truely taste the goodness, veg boxes etc are good as you will soon be a natural fresh chef you wont want to eat ready meals etc and you wil find how easy it is to make good healthy food instead of chemical filled rubish.
    Good luck and love. J

Didn’t Hawaii just past no-gmo law? if so, the papaya section is probably out-dated.

    • Roma Seiker

The law was enacted on the island of Kauai in November. Four major agri-chemical companies have now filed lawsuits to try to block the law.

  • Komrade

Ask this simple question; The Europeans “outlawed” the use of ANY GMO products, why ? The US Government could care less how we feel. Get used to it or Boycott before it’s too late

  • Fence sitter!!

I guess we’re all in agreement here that GMO’s are not in our best interest. So, we’d better all start our own gardens and be happy with the amount of food that we can provide for ourselves. It would be best to have the kids stay up all night guarding the garden from all pests: rabbits, deer, insects of all kinds, etc. Then maybe we all buy our own cow for fresh milk and meat. Prepare yourselves by learning how to milk the cow. It has to be done every morning and evening. And what will we feed the cow to give us non GMO milk and meat? Our front and back yards, of course. So, whatever you do, don’t fertilize your yards. Butchering that cow will be great fun, huh? You may need to find a manual, purchase a meat saw, sharpen your knives, etc. Be sure to milk that cow and store the milk before you go killing it. Without any additives your milk will spoil within a few days, so drink it fast. Better protect your cow and gardens because all of the starving people of the world are going to be stealing your stuff. So, you’ll need guns and ammo, and be prepared to shoot them thieves. Without GMO there will be a lot of starving people in this world. For all that will need to purchase your organic and nonGMO foods. Better stock up!! It will probably get very expensive and only the very rich will be able to afford it. But, don’t over stock because it’ll all spoil soon. However, there are foods that will store well in your root cellars. You can find out what they are, google them. You might also google “how to build and maintain a root cellar”.
I’m not purporting that we cannot do these things for ourselves but it is going to be hard. Maybe we should seek out the Amish way of life. Better buy a Bible!!

I’m not trying to say that we have to eat GMO food, but without it I’m afraid that many are going to starve to death. Was food stuff engineered to make the rich richer, or to feed the majority of the worlds population? My guess is that it’s some of both!! Does the FDA just turn their heads away from it all, or, is this another conspiracy?
You’d think that they would realize that after they kill us all off there will be no one left to supply them with their necessities of life. Money isn’t very nutritious nor tasty!

  • Sondra Rene Eisenman

I love soy, and it health benefits and zucchini as well, but I can grow my own zucchini and squash easily , I love soy milk, they have organic soy products right???

  • kasey

Hell no she doesn’t eat it a Monsanto scientist said he bought a cow and won’t drink store bought milk.

  • debra

That is why it is so important to pray over your food.

    • kitty 332

God will not remove pesticides from your food just because you pray over it. Use your brain and make educated choices about what food you purchase.

      • sandy

You pray first of all for the blessing of having food. You also pray for derived health benefit as well as protection from unknown harms. Though your response was a little mean spirited and disrespected the view of another I understand your viewpoint and agree to the point that we must take personal responsibility of what we eat. Being educated and having been married to a Bio-Chemist I also know that God’s power is limitless.

        • manuel montalvo

What does God have to do with all this? In this epoch of advanced technology and science it is incredible how supposelly intelligent and educated people are still repeating the nonsensical stuff that has done so much damage to humanity.

          • cpmt

I ask the same question. Jesus never ever said anything about food or pesticides or….MEN ARE DOING THIS, MEN HAVE TO FIX IT.

          • cpmt

superstition and brain wash it is very incongruent to me that intelligent adults think that praying to God is going to resolve a problem (don’t think on ‘reality???)’. God let us do our own things and made our choices (He doesn’t interfere), so if we destroy earth is our own foult and praying to God is NOT going to resolve anything if we do not do anything about it.

      • Woof Barkington

Prayer should never be used as a magic charm for whatever reason—it’s supposed to be a spiritual communication and nothing more.

  • Temperance_Tucker

Cannot understand what you mean to say with all the expletives,

  • Temperance_Tucker

    I agree James.

  • Temperance_Tucker

Organic food is more expensive because it cannot be produced more economically using 18th century farming practices. It takes a lot of constant human intervention to bring it to harvest. I garden both ways; it’s a no brainer to conclude organic gardening is less efficient.

  • Temperance_Tucker

Love the Koch Brothers. They have made this country a better place.

  • Sunny

there are people starving. but for the people that are not starving, they deserve to know what they are eating.

    • Sondra Rene Eisenman

starving people deserve healthy food too, which I am sure they are grateful for the food they get, and thankful, but I think I would rather starve than eat something that is not good for me.

      • kitty 332

You would change your tune about that if you were starving. Your opinion is of a mind set where you’ve had food all your life.

        • Jo Parker

      • QuentonQuale

The premise that GMOs feed more people has been proven to be false. In fact, GMO crops often under perform regular crops. But one thing is true, GMOs are highly profitable for the companies that make them and then also sell the pesticides/herbicides that they are designed to tolerate. Starving people will eat ANYTHING, but that doesn’t mean they won’t die anyway.

    • celiayounger

the people who are starving and the poor people who can’t afford or don’t have a place to buy organics non-gmo’s are the ones who are going to be steril !!! do you see the effect?!!! or have cancer and as long the gov. does’t change things all of us will (our children) will die of cancer or will be steril or…

How many of you say and heard this woman its bad but you need it?????!!!!!!!!

  • Bob Schildgen

“As many as half of all U.S. farms growing corn for Monsanto are using genetically modified corn,” you say. There can't be more than a very small percent growing corn FOR Monsanto. If they're growing corn FOR Monsanto, they're growing it for seed corn production, which is a very tiny percent of the total corn crop. What's important is how much of the TOTAL corn crop is genetically modified. Also, about 12% of the corn crop is directly consumed by humans as corn chips, high fructose corn syrup, etc., so you are twisting the facts when you say "much" is consumed directly. GMO is wrong, crazy, and possibly deadly, but let's get our agricultural facts straight when we diss it.

  • GWriters

I've written several articles about the diseases farmers suffer from when using pesticides. Not only do these modifications in nature harm our food, but they also pollute the air and make everyone in the area get sick. One of the main diseases is PD, in agriculture already known as THE farmer's disease.

  • Joan

Organic is not non-GMO. You can have a GMO food grown perfectly organically.

    • Jason

No, Joan. That's not true, at least not in the US. USDA organinc guidelines forbid GMO crops.

  • Maria

Thanks for these valueable tips – I always try to avoid such foods, so this list is very useful.

  • Millquixy

It's not so much that they are genetically modified, yes seeds have been modified for years, but they are modified to resist being sprayed the heck with Roundup and then we eat soy and corn that has been drenched with Roundup. The BT corn is even worse as it contains a pesticide that kills the insects by ingesting it. So we are eating corn that contains pesticide that injures bugs via the gut. What is that doing to our gut? Now we find that Kraft Mac/cheese has been using GMwheat which has been predicted to mess up our enzymes and cause liver failure especially in young children. We know this because the UK is slapping a GMO label on Kraft Mac/cheese imported from the US that says it contains GMwheat and there is a warning that it can cause activity and attention disorders (autism/learning disabilities/ADHD) in children. What other foods are they sneaking GM wheat into?

  • Lyn

I was just wondering, is it possible to grow enough organic food to sustain life on the planet? Where I shop, organic foods are twice the price of non organic and that can be tough on the pocketbook. It seems that given enough time, some researcher will find that every and any food causes some kind of disease. Don't forget that there are toxins in the air and water that organic foods are grown in as well. I'm not sure its possible to grow completely pure organic food anymore. Perhaps we need to return to growing our own food by planting a garden in the backyard. That may be the best way to know what goes into your food….

    • Todd

Organic food costs more because non-organic foods are subsidized by the US GOVERNMENT.

    • Sad Truth

they only way to grow truely organic food is in a greenhouse (as ironic as that is). You still have to purify your water/air/soil. Due to chemtrails, flouride/pharma/pesticide in the water, air and soil the only safe environment to produce food is in a controlled artificial environment.

  • studyyourfood

We can ignore GMO and it's foul bedpartner glyphosate at our peril, and with the added help of fluoride, aspartame and outrageous quantities of unbound glutamic acid, morph ourselves into the medically helpless idiots the system is banking so heavilly on – or we can try eating organic for a week, and learn some sense of what our bodies expect from us.
You might be shocked to learn the difference.
Eating right for your blood type can also be very helpful, especially now that we're in "allergy" season. My "allergies" were no longer a factor, once I tried the blood-type diet. I can follow it to whatever extent I feel is necessary, without giving up my favorite avoids, such as potatoes, so long as I get my beneficals, such as grass-fed beef. (I'm a type O)
BTW, potatoes were not mentioned on the list of dangerous GMOs, and surely they should be.

Well read this link I don't think there are any lies about the crops here
Also sugar and high fructose corn syrup ARE carcinogens!!!

Here is another site that will tell you about it and it is not bogus in any way, there is a lot of info but its worth the read!!! The ones that want to keep eating crap be my guest!!!

    • Jordan

Natural sugar, from pure, organic sugarcane, isn’t a carcinogen. Now, aspartame, almost everything in Splenda, and, yes of course, high fructose corn syrup, are carcinogens. In moderate doses, natural sugar is perfectly healthy, and your body will process all of it, as long as you’re active.

  • @MaysaaNouwayhed

I think Nature will fight back…..Karma…..See I read the other day that a group of women in Nairobi developed natural immunity to HIV virus….which is presumed in our circles to be genetically modified…..I have something to tell those obtuse, impervious people…..The island killed Dr. Moro at the end…………….Wake up

  • Nightlyt

Is there any types of these items that are safe? Heirloom seed corn? Cane sugar?

    • Anonymous

Natural cane sugar. Stay away from Splenda, or other “lighter” sweeteners. Namely high fructose corn syrup, and aspartame.

The irony, as I see it, is that, often, the weeds that agriculture wants to kill are healthier for us than the crop that’s grown. The solution then? Eat the weeds. I think nature has a loud voice.

Knowledge, is the best combatant for gmo. investigate the issue for yourself. search it out and beleive me, its not as easy as that. alot of road blocks. Knowledge is your best friend in this case, then you decide for your self.

  • WheatIsDangerous

Wheat REALLY needs to be mentioned here as a GMO food. The VAST majority of the world's wheat crop has been genetically modified to increase yielde per acre – they call this "dwarf wheat", and is an entirely different type of wheat than what our ancestors used to eat. Please (I'm begging you), read "Wheat Belly", and pass on everything you learn. Modern "wheat" is as dangerous, if not moreso, than corn or soy. It's, I'm absolutely convinced, what is making people sick and fat worldwide – we can solve this problem, but the word must get out.

I believe that God knows more than any scientist. Food should be what God created for the purpose of feeding people and animals. Chemicals, pesticides and weed killersare not made for human or animal consumption. The human body was not made to process these chemicals.

I’m trying to raise two healthy twin boys over here in the USA and I’m am frightened and scared by the legal strength this country has to destroy our children’s future. This country allows too many health risks. From passing laws to fource families and public schools to vaccinate with no rights and no fight if any damage accurs from that. If you do your home work before vaccinating you will become a buyer and you will beware of the junk and cancers found in these vaccines. But this country took away our rights of BUYER BEWARE. My heart crys every time I step into a major grocery store and see a rainbow of GMO FIRUT! It is so dangerious to price shop in the US because all the GMO foods are in the low price point items… Then… You go for the “organic” over priced items and learn those are GMO!!! It takes me two hours to shop at a local major chain grocery store when I’m alone and it takes me 4 hours to shop when the twins are with me. My biggest wish as an American… Born and unhealthy raised that GMO be banned or if the Lawyers/ Lawmakers keep minpulating the system then my wish and dreams as a free American is that GMO labels fill the isles and shelves so I can take my hard working HIGH tax paying money to the items that will help me raise 2 strong healthy MEN so I may have a better jean future not a mutated jean future of CANCERS, DEPRESSION, MURDER SUICIDES AND POOR EDUCTION IN A HECILY VACCINATED PUBLIC SCHOOL.

I think you mean GENE. Jeans are meant for wearing.

    • joe

yes its a shame but the truth is that the cabal don't need 300 million americans they want control and if they can eliminate all but 20 million they can control them from the cradle to the grave. so what is instore for us? lawyers doctors, all public and priivate are to bleed you dry financially before you die… facts are all there just do the research.
you must take control of your life with natural health remedies. its there for your use do the research.

You guys aren’t going to have much longer to worry about this. Stock up on foods with long shelf lives, because you will need it. The US government has pushed the dollar too far, and there is no way to circumvent the coming crises. Its going to be Hurricane Katrina, the Rodney King Riots, and the Civil War, all rolled into one, and in every city, and every home.

  • Emily

I think you forgot to add bananas… but it's important to note that if bananas weren't genetically modified, they wouldn't be edible in any way. The grand majority of citrus fruits are also modified, according to a university researcher whose job concerns creating healthier, more appealing fruit. You guys really don't like Monsanto it seems. I think someone is a little biased.

    • Anonymous

I think you should search up the scientist who discovered gm foods and as a result were fired, blacklisted and threatened to be asassasinated. I think these people have but more knowledge than you. Also may I add if gm foods were a healthy way why is it not labeled? Wouldn’t they want to promote gmfoods?

    • Kathy

Maybe you're confusing breeding by controlled pollenization vs. gene splicing. We are talking Genetically Modified Organisms – which is a laboratory vs. field production. I see organic bananas on the market all the time, and by virtue of being the definition of organic it can't be a gene spliced food (GMO). The problem with the GMO they are being developed to withstand high pesticide useage which is killing our environment.

    • IcelX

You truly are naive! Here in Calif, the Labeling of GMO foods was struck down, only after Monsatan infused the ‘democratic process’ with millions of dollars and deceptive ad campaigns. The ‘scientists’ whom endorsed the ‘no on 37′ prop, where bought and paid for. Do your homework before sprouting off on biases please. In America, we can no longer blindly follow what the media sells us. It’s all propoganda to help this oligarchy maintain profits at the consumers expense.

    • Tesa

Why is it when an oppositeawesome opinion is posted along with facts to back them up it is considered bias?

    • Jan

Emily….I think you are getting a wee bit mixed up with trait selection techniques which farmers have practiced for thousands of years OUTSIDE of the laboratory and without the aid of a GENE GUN to insert unrelated DNA crossing the species barriers. Not surprising as the GM Industry has deliberately used the terminology 'genetically modified' instead of 'genetically engineered' as it sounds less benign…and I guess from you comment it seems to have worked.

    • Don

Non GM bananas not edible!? I spent years on a small South Pacific island with nary a GM banana in sight. They were by far the sweetest and best flavored bananas and we grew the plants in our own backyard! BTW, for those who may not know, banana plants reproduce from suckers which are transplanted to create a new plant, a new banana stalk, new suckers and so on. No seeds!

We have to eat grass feed meat. Eat organic fruits and vegetables, or grown from non-gmo seeds. Filter our water. Use organic household products. Take natural supplements without additives. Exercise daily. Get 6 to 8 hours of sleep. Whew, I am overwhelmed …guess I'll go to bed. : )

    • ken

      man you're so right!!!!

    • Anonymous

Excellent share! I think we should do the best we can. And be aware. Organic meats are also important.

  • notagraveyard

Dont forget all the gmo corn foods that are fed to all the factory farm animals, doesnt that make them gmo whether they get the BGH or not? Plain and simple, I do not wish for myself, nor my family, to be MONSANTOS lab rats!

I am proud of my country they have a 10 years banned genetically modified foods; but my problem is that I don't live there anymore; I live in Miami; Florida

    • Saiga

      What country???

    • shay

Thanks for a touch of humor in this heated conversation. I live in Miami too and can attest to the fact that it is NOT part of the USA. As an aside, I just saw my cardiologist who enjoys a fine reputation and she put me on a gluten-free diet as wheat is one of the worst GMO offenders. She has found that CRPs in her patients dropped after being gluten-free after only 3 months. Seems that GMOs, in her learned opinion, contribute greatly to the inflammatory processes in our bodies… cardiovascular and joints in particular. I'm taking her advice.

      • Jason

I'm sorry to burst your bubble, shay, but GMO wheat is vuirtually non-existent. So what ever may be causing your gluten issues, it's certainly not GMO wheat.

  • Love

We are not victims! We have the power! Tomorrow… I'm starting a site where the people will label the foods themselves.

I will create GMO Labels and you can download and print and go to the store and start labeling the foods… fuck the government!

I prefer to adhere to my own common sense and best judgement, so I don't "gasp" at anyone who is attempting to diminish the message that "GMO's are dangerous to your health and that there are no proven health risks, or that there's really nothing to be done about it, so just accept it."

Matter of fact, I view such statements with considerable suspicion, especially when they are delivered with a pseudo-authoritative slant. I've done MY homework and I KNOW the risks. So do all the countries that have forbidden these products entry into their ports. Except, the USA, of course… gee, I wonder why?

So whilst I support everyone's free speech, I am exercising the right to dissent, and vehemently, at that.

Thank you for providing a forum where that can take place.

If one is not familiar with Alex Jones the site is or or

Very informative and as well, the pictures of the animals in Europe they did tests on, feeding them GMO's. It will make you Puke!

The cancers, deformities, intestinal dissolving, brain, heart and soft tissue tumors! Yeah, GMO is surely safe….right???? Wake up America or we are going to loose! Evil is abounding!!!!

It's the Obama leftist government who allow things like this and tell you vitamins are no good. We conservatives lead the charge against this crap. If the conservatives were in charge you liberals would not have destroyed our once great country and then use the media to blame Bush. God bless America and the hell with leftist liberals. Wake up Americans people like T.M. are the problem. The libs hate America and want us to be just like China.
Only conservatives like Reagan and our founding fathers can turn America in the opposite direction.

      • Anonymous

      • Gary

Exactly, Warren. Couldn't have said it better. Monsanto and the other criminal chemical companies along with Big Pharma have all of Congress AND Obama in their back pockets. Conservatives (the word was derived from "conservation" by the way) are the only voices going up against Obama's dismantling of America. Eat organic, take your vitamins, get plenty of exercise, and detox regularly. And don't trust a word that comes out of the "government".

  • Jeet Chatterjee

I agree with Leo Kretzer. This is such an ill-informed article.. every item on the list points to "unknown future risks"…. GMO foods, in a statistically overwhelming amount of cases, have had no significant health risks. Further, they are the best hope for combating malnutrition, hunger as well as reintroducing agriculture in regions ravaged by pests, drought or disease.

Yes, there are issues with horizontal gene spread and the danger of pests/bacteria becoming resistant to pesticides. But the idea that genetic modification is unnatural and immediately bad for you is ludicrous. People talk about buying only organic bananas. Every single banana is a result of a human intervention and genetic modification. Humans have been involved in genetic modification for thousands of years- every known example of agriculture has involved genetic modification by restricting the growth of wild plants in farms/fields etc.

    • Jpearl

@ Jeet, yes, there have been forms of genetic modification, natural, and otherwise, for a long time. But, there has Never been anything as huge as this, (injecting pesticide chemicals into corn, for instance, to combat pests.) This is just one small example, but will serve to illustrate my point. The corn is now infused with pesticide, from the inside out….mmm, how could that possibly be a health risk?

Monsanto is, and was a Chemical co., producing pesticides (like round up), as it's main product….until they decided it would be a good way to control seeds, and the food supply….voila, poison food….yummmy. Of course, the billions in profits from this control gives them lots of power to buy off people and anything standing in their way. They did not expect people to stand up against them as they are….we are thinking of the future of our planet, and our children.

BTW, it is a lie that GMO crops perform better….the weeds and pests just become resistant, and More and More poison is needed to attempt control…poisoning the very soil for years to come….and, the GMO seeds contaminate all around them, for miles….as far as the wind will carry them. It is a veritable Pandora's box being unleashed on the world.

    • Steve

Fact: GMO crops are actually much more susceptible to drought than conventional crops, despite the marketing claims.

If you want world-record-breaking crop yields, go organic:

And pests mostly feed on dying crops, part of nature's plan to break down the material for future growth. If you treat the soil right, it will be alive with beneficial bacteria and lots of worms, and pests will largely stay away. Dumping pesticides on the crops kills the life in the soil and invites the pests.

    • Beth

Let's not confuse hybrids with GMO's. A hybrid plant, left alone will revert back to original. GMO's are changed at the core.

    • gigi

Jeet, I guess you will jump off the proverbial cliff? Right, yeah. You are stupid as the guy you are agreeing with. You moron, the bad of this is everywhere. Ever heard of greed, well that produces evil and power hungry pontifs that will sacrifice your health over there money hoarding. I have been doing my DD for 40 years. You will not come close to knowing all that I have uncovered in those years, dear.
So get started and learn before you speak about something you know NOTHING of………
It is killing people and there is proof, but not visible, cause you have powerful people not willing to let you know what they know. They do not care one bit about your ARS, dear. GMO's are harmful to us, animals, environment, etc. and do not believe otherwise. If I had the time and space to type all of the proven harm it does, I would, but clearly I do not. TRUST ME….. It is not GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Corinne

I really don't think that prior to this issue anyone has crated sterile seeds or plants that create their own insecticides.

  • Leo Kretzner

There are real economic and environmental issues with GM foods, but unless you know you have food allergies, this business of them being "dangerous to eat" is simply nonsense. (I can just hear the gasps.)

I'm sorry that goes counter to the echo chamber that exists here, but it's the truth. We eat DNA in our food every day; most crops are already highly modified and not truly natural. Even 'certified organic' crops can have all sorts of exceptions and low levels of certain 'non-organic.'

I don't doubt the well-intended concerns here – and as I said, GMOs have legit issues: economic justice and concerns with horizontal gene spread. Those are real issues. But unless you already have food allergies, the possible danger of GM food per se is minimal. I will gladly eat it.

I realize scaring people helps bring in donations and heated rhetoric. I am extremely leftist in my political views, but this "Frankenfood" meme is anti-scientific, new age nonsense. Right up there with magic crystals having "healing energies" – total, anti-science bunk. ('Sungazing' sounds even more ludicrous.)

People, there are MUCH bigger concerns – such as endocrine disruptors all around us. Etc, etc.

I know people will rail against my post. BFD! I'm sure there are lots of unverified anecdotes about someone's cousin who ate GM corn and went insane, but I'd bet a year's pay most if not all of those are bogus.

By beating this 'straw drum' so loudly, you just lose credibility with more mainstream media – and also are ignoring the real issues. Save scaring people for halloween when childish behavior is acceptable.

    • Leo Kretzner

By the way, and very ironically: A major reason the GM food people are against labelling it is exactly because of the fear-mongering around the issue.

It's also ironic that I'm actually trying to tell people how to stop shooting themselves in the foot with this issue, but most will no doubt hate me for saying anything counter to their world-view.

      • cherylc

i in no way purposely gave you a thumbs up! it was accident! BELIEVE THAT! i think you are either working for Monsanto or just not willing to see whats really goin on… WAKE UP! ~ 29countries didnt band this toxic food because it is good for us!! smh….some sheeple!

    • Jpearl

@ Leo, it is a distinct possibility that you are working on behalf of Monsanto, GMOs main pusher.

They are, after all, spending Millions to defeat the labeling bill set to be on the ballot in California this fall. That would definitely include money being paid to people to try to discredit info threads like this one. And, even if you are not (and are just badly informed about GMOs), you can be Sure there are others who are being paid to do this.

    • Bill Newman

Hi Leo: It's hard to say whether you're a GMO lobby agent or not, but if so you're a good one. You sound convinced. I can only say to you that if you want GMO's to gain any credibility with thinking and concerned people, you've got to wrench it from the clutches of criminal corporations like Monsanto and hand over all future development to more credible agencies. Monsanto and their ilk have no social capital remaining at all and the vast majority of independent food producers and advocate consumers will fight them to the last.

    • Anonymous

In May 19th ,2009 the American Academy of Environmental Medicine (AAEM) encouraged the American nation to stop consuming gmos', immediately. They released a position paper on gmo's , and in it ,they addresses the direct correlation between gmo's and adverse health effects. They cite several animal studies, scientists, pediatricians and medical and research personnel, alike. The AAEM then concluded that , "GM foods pose a serious health risk in the areas of toxicology, allergy and immune function, reproductive health, and metabolic, physiologic and genetic health…."( link; The information is there for anyone who is willing to dig deep enough. Gmo's don't only cause harm to those with "allergic reactions" , they are threat to anyone and anything that injects then on massive scale. Do your research and become informed, gmo's should be labeled, and people HAVE every right to know what in their food. It's up to every individual to decide wether they still want to consume gmo's , once the information and truth regarding them is clearly and openly available.

      • Steve

Actually, there's enough credible science and field observation available now that it is clear that GMOs should not be labelled, they should be completely banned.

    • Charles

Leo you fat slob I hope you choke on a piece of corn you filthy globalist!

    • RC

No one is saying outlaw the GMO food, Mr. Kretzner. We simply want this stuff to be labelled. You choose to eat GMO, others choose not to.. however, we need labels on the products so we can all make the choices that are best for us. No big deal right? We will have our labels no matter how much is spent to convince us otherwise. 37 will pass.

Here is an article for you to read while you're scarfing produce spliced with animal genes and chemicals –

      • Steve

I say we should absolutely outlaw the GMO food. Since there is ample evidence of the seriously harmful health impacts, there is no reason to allow it. And if we are honest about it, a majority of the public won't bother to read the labels anyway, while Monsanto laughts all the way to the bank. But even if GMOs were allowed to be sold, there should be a requirement to grow it in a completely isolated hermetically sealed facility with no chance for contamination in the natural real world.

I am in disbelief that someone could be so blind about this. Can you show me the extensive studies that support your statements. I think the one major study in Britain is all there is and they destroyed that and fired the man who did the studies which showed the damage that GMO foods can cause and it is reported the average person eat at least 200 lbs a year of GMO type foods a year and in most cases does not have a clue that they are doing it. I for one believe that there is going to be grave consequences. Wake up, quit being the so called expert. Maybe these meme's are anti-scientific because there is no scientific data to support GMO and none so far required because they, Monsanto and their co-hort have the FDA in thier pocket.

    • Beth

Leo, can you explain then why GMO food/feed crops have been banned in 29 other countries? Please don't say it was because the public demanded it. They demanded TESTING and after testing, 29 countries banned it !!

    • Corinne

It is not childish behavior to want to know what one is feeding their child. GMOs should be labeled.

    • Elizabeth

Mainstream media lost credibility with me years ago.

    • ttan

There is growing evidence that GMO foods present very real health risk and saying it doesn't is the same as saying there is no evidence of global warming, its just silly to say the least.
For me, it is also the other danger, the growing evidence that all food supplies will be in the hands of a small group of multinational companies.
The power to control the survival of billions through the control of food ( mainly seeds for now) is not something that I, for one want to see.
Do some research for yourself (for example Gmo seeds, ie, what are they, how do they work, who owns and controls them , how they are marketed, what do they cost, their affects on non Gmo plant life etc…) and then decide if you believe that this is remotely possible,
If you come to the conclusion that this possiblity exist, no matter how slight, that a company could patent food, go one step further and try to imagine what this may mean for you, your family, your community and your country should you fall foul of these multinationals.

Thanks for this list. I would caution everyone to avoid GMO foods. They damage your liver and kidneys, reducing your ability to detox your body–so your body gets sick. Sorry for the spelling error!

      • Leo Kretzner

Your spelling error is the least of it.

How exactly, or even approximately, does a foreign gene inserted in a crop damage the liver and kidneys?? Do you know anyone that this has happened to? Or is this just another thing that get's repeated enough that people believe it? I note that this is typically the ploy if right wingers, but I suspect you are not that.

        • Jpearl

@ Leo, it is not just about a foreign gene insertion. It is about huge amounts of pesticide poison being dumped on Gm crops, which they are engineered to live through. Monsanto is after all, a chemical and pesticide co.

          • Saiga

WOW Finally! So why again do they need to be involved with our food supply???

A Fucking chemical company???!!!???!! Oh that's right because DDT was an effective insect repellant and was easy to wash off of our fruits and veggies. Which did not enter into the food. Can't have that!!! NO, NO, NO, lets just engineer toxins directly into the foods fuck the people! LEO, YOUR AN IDIOT!!! AGAIN WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Dr. P.

The problem with avoiding any GE crops is not a simple one, as everything has been contaminated by air currents, and insects, and birds. It is impossible to isolate thousands upon thousands of contaminated GE crops. The other grave issue is the aerosol/Chemtrails global assault for the past 14+ years. So, this means there are no real "organic" crops anymore. We are uninformed experimental lab animals for covert operations that have not only changed our entire weather, but also dumped enormous amounts of toxins on everything. This is well documented; but mainstream media (owned by 5 corporations) is complicit in this cover-up. For those not informed, check out:

    On youtube, see the documentaries:

    1. "Aerosol Crimes" by Clifford Carnicom

    2. What in the World Are they Spraying?"

Finally, the US will have its first Chemtrails/Geo-engineering conference, August 17-19, 2012, in Los Angeles. For those who cannot attend in person, this conference will be livestreamed online.

  • Eliot W. Collins

It is safe to assume that all processed food that is not labeled "non-GMO" contains some GMO ingredients. I do not know of any fresh produce grown from GE seeds, other than a few varieties of sweet corn. Theoretically GMO produce should have an "8" in the first position of the five digit PLU code. If one wants to eat only non-GMO soy products, then there are many available, all labeled USDA Organic or non-GMO.

The real problem is that pesticide resistant GE crops encourage the use of even more pesticides. In my opinion, we have more to fear from the increased amount of pesticides being introduced into the environment than from actually eating GMO foods.

What if fruits and vegetables could be genetically modified so that they would be pest (but not pesticide) resistant? What is the downside to GMO produce that did not require the use of any pesticides at all? Yes, I know there are other options as well.

    • WonderBarbie

Read the Monsanto story from a reliable source. They created one of the first pest resistant pesticides called Roundup Ready that is used on their crops. They even sue farmers for replanting the seeds from prior harvest. They actually have patents on their seeds so you can't even use the fruit from prior seeds you purchased. In other words, they are sewing up the worlds food market with GMO foods. Even organic giants like Whole Foods have caved in. Monsanto and ConAgra dominate the food market worldwide through the control of the seeds. In addition, they are forcing organic farmers out of the marketplace. One way to to contaminant their corps with the GMO seedlings.

I understand that GMO foods are genetically grown to produce their own insecticide which, of course, we ingest if we eat the foods.

    • J S

Pesticides are non discriminant – they kill honey bees that we need for pollenizing our crops. If we kill the "good" bugs we will all be dead soon. Nature has a way of balancing itself out if we let it. Pesticide use is just bad for the whole ecosystem.

What is stargaxing and sungazing? Thanks

  • Tabula

Can anyone provide more scientific researched sites of sungazing? Even if it's alternative science studies. Also can you be more specific on this 80 year old man and provide his name? Thanks…

  • Tyler

    Hey, where's number 9?

    • Mike

In Germany, the produce you buy will no longer rott…they don`t even get brown spots..noticed especially with tomatoes and bell can not use the seeds for reproduction, either..they are sterile..:(((

    • Anonymous

BTW..I tried it with both tomatoes AND peppers..they stayed "fresh" for 5 months without refridgeration..and still going a spot on them..would I eat those? NO way…

That is completely frightening. I am so sorry for this. I contend that the people are the victims of their gov'ts, and it's global. When they've taken our ability to self-sustain, they've taken it all.

    • MD

Potatoes don't grow "eyes" anymore. Organic ones will grow them.

      • Emily

Sure they do. My potatoes aren't organic and they always grow them.

    • pavan

sterile cos they are hybrid varieties which give great yield to farmers..and are not necessarily gm crops…

    • jeanie

They probably have been irradiated, which basically sterilizes them with radiation.

    • Jude55wastingaway

I bought 1 orange and 1 green pepper at a krogers in SW TN. Both were perfect on the outside and moldy, brown and rotten to the core on the inside. Just like MONSANTO executives.

    • cpmt

yap. or they get rotten after a few weeks and THEY START INSIDE, outside they look ok and when you open them they are rotten or even the seeds inside start to germinate looking like small worms. That is what I have seen in the US. yajjj

Interested in learning more about foods, additives and what is tampered with by

    chemicals etc.

    • Cecile Caple

Any commercial food is subject to suspicion because it is raised for mass consumption to be profitable. Eat local, organic, vegetarian, grow your own, raise your own, just a few suggestions…

    • J S

Watch the movie "Seeds of Death" about Monsanto and other chem cos and how they operate to control everything and everyone connected to food production. A real eye opener!!! The info might make you sick and the GMO food definitely will.

  • Paradzai Mutandwa

Here in Afrika in general, and Zimbabwe in particular, consecutive poor rains, coupled with a depressed economy, have seen us turn to donations and, as beggars are not choosers, what NGOs bring to hungry communities has been accepted with much gratitude and little scrutiny.

I would highly recommend you look up the practice of moon gazing and sun gazing, countless reports showing people not needing food anymore for months on end – one man has not yet eaten food or drank water since he as 12 he is now in this 80s, a young boy meditated for 10 months with no food or water. Sun gazing works – i'm currently working my way up and every day i feel more and more energized.

      • josh

i agree sungazing does work and i need to start doing it again. your facts on the 80 year old man are off however. he only drinks water. One thing that puzzles scientist who study this man is the fact that his pineal gland is actually growing and is much larger than the average

        • Ahmed

Could both of you guys start blogs on your activities?

Btw, if you want some tips on this practice (also called bigu in Tibetan tradition) google meditationexpert and check out the fasting articles

      • Saiga

        Enjoy that fukishima radiation!! Wow….

    • Cecile Caple

Perhaps what they need is an organizer. With numbers standing strong and having their voice heard, many changes can be dreamed into reality. When a family becomes self-sustaining, it is truly a miracle to behold. Wishing you the best of luck and days ahead. Peace!

welcoming one form of death over another??

      • Boom

You're an idiot. Thank all things that matter that you aren't in any form of power. Especially concerning GMOs otherwise our friend Paradzai may have died from starvation. The person who posted this article has one source. Two of the sources for the sourced article are back to the natural society website. The only one with decent sources at all. Is the Huffington Post Article. which if you follow back the article it sources sources an actual journal.

The journal that is being referenced is one done in 2002 and is using the infamous Sprague-Dawley rats. This study has long since been defrauded. The rats develop large tumors naturally within a 2 year time span. Bad science is bad. So much misinformation is out there in relation to GMO's and the amount of bullshit that people repeat VS actual evidence is very skewed.

Here is the once source that many of those sites use:

Here's the common misinformation from peeps who are profiting from your fear:

And here is a article with some peer review:

Remember, misinformation is a weapon of mass destruction.
Considering the article was published in 2012, ten years after the study they are citing. No attention to the defamation of the study after 10 years. That is not doing your homework at the least or openly misleading at the most. These folks can't be trusted to give accurate info.

        • JediQ

Spoken by someone who seems to be a shill for GMO companies. Work for Monsanto by any chance?

          • guest

My thoughts exactly JediQ. Monsantos foods good for us..Thats why they spent millions on lawyers so that they would not have to label their products as GMO..Think Booms been eating too much gmo corn

        • anon

"from peeps who are profiting from your fear"

I'll give you that infowars profits off of fear, but the example of one bad website does not stretch to cover the entire issue.

Who are you suggesting "profits" from people growing their own vegetables and doing their own research when it comes to whether or not they wish to consume GMO's?

I don't care if the studies were de-frauded: I shouldn't be FORCED to consume something I do not wish to consume, no matter how irrational you believe my wishes are.

          • Jason

Anon, the organinc industry would be able to profit from charging artificially high premiums for their goods, based off of other's fears that competing products might be harmful. People always say to follow the money trail, but that trail leads in two directions.

    • dee

Africa deserves much better than GMO crops!

      • matt

        so does the US.

    • Lorn

you really can't eat shit anymore, all of these food facts are just really starting to piss me off…like what the fuck do we eat anymore if it's all poison?

    • joe

so you want the people of your country to eat spermicidal corn?

    • candy

How nice of us to donate food that will kill you so that you don't starve to death. being a depressed economy you a;so lack the medical practices that can treat all the diseases you would get from GMO foods. God made things perfect for how they were meant to be but we keep meddling with things and making them worse by making things APPEAR as though they are getting better. Man buys into the illusion because we are prideful people.
