    Nomad: For a "Dental Student" you seem poorly educated and way too willing to buy the information you are given by your instructors. I have practiced dentistry for 30 years, graduating from the U of Michigan. There is no doubt at all in my mind that amalgam should NOT be used by the profession, in any country, under any circumstances. I see daily evidence of the damage it causes to teeth. In school you were taught to ALWAYS use a rubber dam in placing amalgam, to protect the patient from exposure to the liquid mercury. Nuff said?

    I am more worried about other countries where silver fillings are still being used. There were reports of smuggling the unwanted ones into South America… We need proper coordination with judiciaries abroad as a dental coalition.
