There are many excellent methods to detox, and after indulging in a holiday feast, there is hardly a better time to cleanse the body of accumulated toxins. Though you can try a myriad of techniques coming from varying medicinal practices around the world, the following 4 are some of the most readily practiced and easiest to complete – in many cases almost immediately after eating some ‘not-so-healthy’ treats at Thanksgiving time.
1. Apple Cider Vinegar with Purified Water
Real, unfiltered ACV was one of Hippocrates’ favorite substances for remedying a toxic body. It is also inexpensive and available at almost every health food store. You can even make your own in nine easy steps. ACV is a natural antibiotic and antiseptic that fights germs and bacteria. Try mixing one tablespoon of ACV with ‘the mother’ (the active enzymes that will be found in unfiltered ACV) with a full 8 oz. glass of purified water. It will get to work on a sluggish digestive system and over-toxic body in a heartbeat.
2. Drink Nettle or Dandelion Tea
These two teas are also easy to obtain and very inexpensive. Stinging nettle is diuretic, astringent, pectoral, anodyne, tonic, rubefacient, styptic, anthelmintic, nutritive, hermetic, anti-rheumatic, anti-allergenic, decongestant, expectorant, anti-spasmodic, and anti-histamine, anti-lithic/lithotrophic, herpetic, galactagogue, and an anti-histamine. It is a very powerful purifier.
Green tea also has cleansing benefits. Not only is green tea a worldwide favorite, it has been used for more than 5000 years medicinally. This great herbal drink also improves liver detoxification (especially helpful with the over-consumption of alcohol) and has even been proven to reduce cancer rates. It reduces blood sugar levels and can aid in relieving digestive gases, too.
3. If You Don’t Already Take Probiotics, Start Now
Some experts say that you should take probiotics after a good cleanse, but many aren’t aware that taking probiotics supplements can aid in cleansing the body all on their own. A healthy gut contains over 100 trillion microorganisms, from some 400 different species. All of these aid in digestion, absorption, and the production of significant amounts of B vitamins and important digestive enzymes.
Without ample healthy gut flora, you can’t efficiently absorb the good stuff and eliminate the bad. While it would be great if you had been taking probiotics before that huge Thanksgiving meal, there is no better time to start than now!
4. Go for a Walk
Eat too much at your Great Aunt’s house, and want to start the process of eliminating toxins form the body? Instead of stretching out on the sofa after all that turkey and pumpkin pie, go for a walk. You don’t have to do anything vigorous – just a 30-minute walk at a pace that is fast enough to get your heart rate slightly elevated will do the job. The extra blood that is generated by your walk will also fill the channels of elimination and help to get everything moving.
The more oxygenated our body is, the easier it can rid itself of toxic build up. A post-meal walk also helps to clear glucose from the bloodstream, and researchers have found lowered blood sugar levels, even in diabetic patients after they go for a 20-minute walk. The organs of elimination are some of the most vital organs to keep in good working condition when you want to detox the body, so start an post-Thanksgiving-meal walk to get the blood flowing and the digestive organs working.
