If ever there was a GMO lackeyย and puppetย that stood for the poisoning of the people with GMOs over standing up for the constituents who voted him into office, its Representative Mike Pompeo. Thereโs a special kind of โwowโ reserved for Congressional bills like the one heโs once again proposing on behalf of Monsanto and Big Biotech.
The Kansas Republican would like to re-introduce Monsantoโs dream bill โ it would give Monsanto, and their friends like Syngenta, Dow, and Bayer carte blanche (complete freedom) to grow GMO foods without labels, without state rights, and without consumer choice. It is a law that promotes the biotech agenda through and through. It was introduced during the last congressional sessions, but fortunately, did not pass. Pompeo is presenting it again.
If the US ever wanted to just write Monsanto a blank check for their biotech herbicides and GMO crops, known for ruining health and damaging soil, then this legislation, dubbed by critics the Deny Americans the Right-to-Know (DARK) Act, is it.
Ronnie Cummins, international director of the Organic Consumers Association says the bill:
ย โ. . .is not only anti-consumer, but anti-democracy and anti-stateโs rights as well.โ
Cummins continued:
โUnderstanding that they are losing the battle at the state level to keep consumers in the dark about whether or not their food is genetically engineered, Monsanto and its minions are now prepared to abolish consumer choice and overturn stateโs constitutional rights so that they can continued to force feed us their GMO food.โ
Forget all the progress that non-GMO advocates have made so far, too, if this bill receivesย enough support in Congress to actually pass. With its passing, it would preempt any local or state requirement thus overturning existing laws in Vermont, Connecticut and Maine โ a direct attack to state sovereignty.
This is sad, news, concerning the fact that most Americans want GMOs to be labeled (at least). Polls show thatย a whopping 92% of US citizens are asking their government to label GE foods.
Despite this landslide request, Monsanto, Bayer, and Syngenta have infiltrated our governments to such an extent that nothing short of firing all of Congress, the FDA, the EPA, and the Senate would give us a chance to slay the biotech dragon that has its hold over us.
โThis poll underscores that, across the country, consumers want labeling of GE food, including GE salmon, and consider safety standards set by the government of such food imperative,โ said Jean Halloran, Director of Food Policy Initiatives at Consumers Union, the policy arm of Consumer Reports.
We canโt let Monsanto, who already was able to pass HR 933 –ย dubbed โthe Monsanto Protection Actโย –ย pass this legislation through Pompeo, too. The previous bill effectively bared federal courts from being able to halt the sale or planting of controversial genetically modified (aka GMO) or genetically engineered (GE) seeds, no matter what health issues may arise concerning GMOs in the future.
Interestingly, the World Health Organization has even admitted that glyphosate โ created to be used specifically with GMO crops โ is carcinogenic.
You can help spread the word, and of course, contact Mike Pompeo if you live in Kansas. Heck, contact him if you live in Bulgaria! The world should let him know weโre onto him, and his biotech buyout!
That SOB Pompeo should be drawn and quartered!
This is what we need a national standard on labeling! This will quit all the wasting of funds by both sides in these state elections. States are four for four in voting down labeling so let’s save the trouble for the other forty six and end it nationally now. Of course what we really need is johnny to tell us what kind of a government we have.
What is needed is a national standard for legislators … to eliminate unethical and dysfunctional from the system.
They are too closely aligned with big business so they don’t have the interests of consumers in mind. They work for big businesses like Monsanto who have them in their back pocket whenever needed for favours.
