Help Fight Childhood Obesity by Transforming the School Lunch Program
The obesity epidemic is not a light issue in this nation. What is especially in need of desperate change is the lifestyle and eating habits that kids develop at very young ages. The number of sedentary and overweight children continues to grow psychological advertisements continue to have massive influence. In order to rid our nation of this obesity epidemic we must start instilling a different lifestyle into young ones. Childhood obesity does not need to be a part a growing part of our society. Although change can and will start anywhere, it is easiest to do things right the first time.
One area that can be greatly improved on is our nations school lunch program. With only 4% of schools requiring fruits and vegetables to simply be available and only 18.4% requiring healthy beverages to be available, a re-modeling of the school lunch program is desperately needed. In an effort to make these issues known, there is a program known as National School Lunch Week, which started on October 10th and will end on October 14th.
To help spread the word, the MAT@USC, Master of Arts in Teaching at the University of Southern California, was kind enough to send us an infograhpic concerning the childhood obesity epidemic and very much needed transformation of the school lunch program. To help fight the obesity epidemic and childhood obesity, the issue must be faced at the root – to alter the teachings of eating and exercising at the very beginning.
