FDA Approves Surgical Implant to ‘Fight Obesity,’ But Won’t Label GMOs
The Food and Drug Administration wants you to implant a small ‘anti-obesity’ device deep within your body that shuts down your nerve connection to your stomach and requires very risky surgery — but you aren’t allowed to actually know what’s making you fat and sick in the first place.
That’s the latest reality brought forth by a new FDA approval that surrounds the implementation of what’s known as the ‘Maestro system,’ an electrical implant that was created to ‘treat obesity’ in people who register a body mass index of 35 to 46 and have ‘obesity-related conditions’ like diabetes. The system works by actually impairing the ability of certain nerves to do their job, jamming them with electrical pulses that block the direct signals that your brain sends to your stomach to indicate that it needs food.
In other words, the surgical implant shuts down your biological instinct to eat. And it comes with a host of problems. According to the New York Times report, the new surgical implant comes with side effects including:
“…nausea, pain near the implant, vomiting and surgical complications. The device can be recharged by the patient, and clinicians can adjust its settings. The manufacturer, EnteroMedics, hopes to offer the implant at roughly 20 centers nationwide by the end of 2015. The price has not been set, and insurers have not decided whether to cover it.”
Even major insurance providers may cover this technique.
But what about actually combating the major causes of obesity? From the plastic chemicals like BPA and BPS, to examining the links between Monsanto’s RoundUp consumption and overall sickness. Or at least letting consumers know what they’re eating when they place their next order for a triple McRib?
Even just letting people know about BPA could help slash millions of obesity cases. Numerous studies have connected BPA exposure with everything from obesity to cancer. One study out of NYU School of Medicine analyzed 2,938 young people, and found that the most obese individuals also had the highest concentrations of BPA in their urine. Only 10% of the obese children actually had lower BPA levels.
But beyond even the links between BPA and obesity, however, lies the astounding body of evidence that there’s something seriously wrong with Monsanto’s control of our food supply — whether it’s the RoundUp herbicide residues giving us cancer or the GMOs consistently being linked to a host of issues. Yet, you don’t even get to know if you’re eating it.
It’s beyond concerning that the FDA has ventured as far as to approve a new surgical implant that will literally shut down your nerve signals from your brain, yet won’t consider for just one moment that we should be able to know if we are eating genetically modified organisms in our staple crops.
Perhaps it has something to do with the revelations back in 2007 that revealed the US State Department and others were in fact pushing Monsanto’s Franken creations worldwide on numerous other nations — and even funding their marketing material.
Now is the time to continue the push for not only GMO labeling at a national and worldwide level, but for the reclamation of our food supply at large.
The Biotech Industrial Complex owns the FDA. Duh…
What a nightmare.
