Bar-S foods has not confirmed the presence of listeria in their food items, but due to recurring issues at the plant, they had decided to recall the foods in order to take precaution.

If you have a recalled Bar-S product, you are advised to throw it away or to return it to where you purchased it. If you have questions or concerns, you are invited to call the Bar-S hotline at 1-888-965-6134 in order to receive further information on the recall.

The USDA warns that listeria can cause listeriosis, a serious infection that mostly affects the elderly, young children, pregnant women, and those with a weakened immune system.

Listeria can cause muscle aches, a fever, stiff neck, confusion, seizures, and loss of balance, in addition to diarrhea and other gastrointestinal symptoms. In pregnancy, it can cause life threatening complications such as a still birth, preterm labor or a serious infection in the newborn baby.
