It is well established that carcinogenic substances are lurking in the environment around us, but just how many cancer cases are caused by these substances remains a mystery. Diet and smoking habits make up nearly 60 percent of cancer cases, and thus personal lifestyle changes play a major factor, but how many cancer cases result from environmental and occupational exposure - environmental toxins.

Environmental Toxins – 1/3 of Cancer Cases

For decades the estimate for such cases has remained at 6 percent, but many experts feel that number is significantly lower than what is actually true. In a 1981 report by two scientists, Sir Richard Doll and Sir Richard Peto, was published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute. It was estimated that pollutants in the environment caused about 2 percent of cancer deaths and exposures in occupational settings were responsible for 4 percent. Using these numbers, 30,000 U.S. deaths resuleds from these exposures in 2009.

But the percentage of cancer cases caused by environmental toxins and occupational exposure can’t be confidently calculated. While it is important to know which substances are carcinogenic and how much these substances are used in our society, many factors must be taken into consideration when determining exactly what causes this number 2 killer to be so rampant.

Tobacco smoke is responsible for nearly 30 percent of cancer cases, and the carcinogenicity of the substance is amplified even more when asbestos is present. Benzene, which causes leukemia, is commonly found in vehicle exhaust. Similarly, radon, a natural radioactive gas found in many homes, raises the risk of lung cancer while arsenic, linked to skin, liver, bladder and lung cancer, contaminates many foods and juices – as well as the water supply.

While scientists and mainstream medical professionals call upon the abilities of mainstream medical science to lessen cancer rates, research shows that the war against cancer using such techniques is a complete failure. Despite 10′s of millions of dollars being spent on the war on cancer each year, and the American Cancer Society allegedly making its mission to treat and prevent cancer, overall rates continue to climb as mainstream medicine provides little benefit.

No matter exactly how many cancer cases are being caused by environmental toxins, possessing some knowledge allows for individuals to reduce their exposure to the carcinogenic substances while manufacturers and factories can reduce or halt the use of the cancer-causing substances.

So how can the nearly 60 percent of cancer cases caused the smoking and lifestyle be drastically slashed? To put it simple, don’t smoke and live a healthy lifestyle full of exercise and healthy eating. Fructose is consistently being found to play a significant role in the development and spread of cancer, so fructose consumption should be greatly limited. Using organic consumer products, consuming organic foods, not smoking, and filtering your tap water will also greatly help to reduce any chance you have of developing cancer.

In addition, begin to consume the many cancer-fighting foods at your disposal. The spice turmeric has consistently been shown to block cancer growth, and 12 studies have shown turmeric to reduce tumors by 81 percent. Ginger, a cousin spice of turmeric, has also been revealed as a cancer fighter, shrinking prostate tumor size by 56 percent in mice. Vitamin D, the use of natural sweeteners, and especially exercise have all been shown to help fight off cancer. Consuming fruits and vegetables while ignoring toxic, chemical-laden junk and fast food, is also advised.

Whether it be reducing exposure to environmental toxins or boosting your body with powerful foods, solutions to fighting and preventing cancer are available – you simply must recognize them.

Why do we need to worry about the water we are consuming each and every day? When referring to a group of people or someone acting different, the phrase “it must be in the water” is often used as a response. While this phrase is always used comically, you need to know that many of your health problems may indeed be result of what is in the water you are consuming every day.

Why You Need to Personally Treat Your Own Water

Many people are unaware of the vast amount of chemicals lurking in nearly all public water supplies. If you are using tap water to cook your food, or drinking it straight from the faucet, then you are exposing yourself to these substances. One of the most commonly noted, controversial substances in the water supply is fluoride.

It was only a few years ago that if you labeled fluoride as a dangerous substance, you would be laughed at and scorned. For years, a select minority of individuals were the only ones raising the awareness of this health concern. Their cries have been and continue to be met with dissonance, despite the fact that the public’s opinion on fluoride has changed much in just a short time. In fact, even the United States government has called for lower levels of water fluoridation following a study published in Environmental Health Perspectives, which found that increased fluoride consumption led to decreased IQ in children.

Check your city’s fluoride levels.

Fluoride is not the only thing in your water. Cocaine, various hormones birth control, pharmaceuticals, and other toxic pollutants are often found in the drinking water across the United States.

Other pollutants typically found in the drinking water:

Lead, which can enter the water supply through corrosive pipes or improper water treatment

Pathogens that cause disease and are especially crippling to those with weakened immune systems

By-products of chlorine treatment such as trihalomethanes and haloacetic acids, which have been linked to cancer and reproductive problems

Arsenic, which may cause cancer, serious skin problems, birth defects and reproductive problems

Radon, a carcinogen linked to lung cancer

So what do you do about it? One of the best options to prevent against exposure to these chemicals is to purchase a high quality water filter, and one that filters fluoride. Two very good options for this would be the ULTRA Countertop, and ULTRA-uc Undercounter water filtration systems from PureEffect.

The Ultra Models are ”all-in-one”, high performance water revitalization systems. They raise water’s PH and negative ORP (antioxidant potential). In addition, natural minerals and electrolytes are supported while the systems filter out radiation, VOCs, drug residues, and heavy metals such as mercury, barium, lead, copper, aluminum, and others. It does all of this while not requiring electricity to operate.

The units also successfully filter out herbicides and pesticides, which is becoming a growing concern. New research has confirmed that Monsanto’s best-selling herbicide Roundup has been found to be contaminating the groundwater in areas it is being applied in. Specifically, the water is being polluted with a carcinogenic chemical it contains known as glyphosate. What does this mean? It means that toxic glyphosate is now polluting the world’s drinking water through the widespread contamination of aquifers, wells and springs. If you want to filter this toxic herbicide out, these units will do it for you.

You can check out these particular water filter systems here – ULTRA Countertop – and here – ULTRA-uc Undercounter.

There has been a large degree of lively debate over the issue of fluoridation, but what exactly is water fluoridation? Water fluoridation has come to refer to the addition of over 40 chemicals into the water supply that synergistically come together to wreak havoc on the body and its processes. There is a lot of disinformation concerning the issue of water fluoridation, but there is only one true answer. Is your water slowly killing you?

Real or perceived danger?

If water fluoridation truly is a killer, then why is it still being added to the water supply? The truth is that only about 5% of the world is current fluoridated. Of the 5% of the world population that is fluoridated, 50% of these citizens reside in the United States. Other countries have rejected fluoridation due to a wide variety of health concerns, with one primary factor being thyroid damage. Even China, who ships in our sodium fluoride, has voiced massive opposition to water fluoridation in the past. Many other countries have also decided against fluoridation due to the health risk.

Studies have shown many times over that fluoride really does pose a threat to the body. Even if there were only a few studies proving that fluoride is harmful, then the government should act to protect the people. If the government felt that the studies were conducted improperly, then an independent investigation should be funded. There really is no excuse for not examining the issue further. Supporters of fluoridation would most likely argue that there is no necessity to investigate fluoridation further, and that there is no implication that fluoride is unsafe for general consumption.

Sodium fluoride made in China and shipped to the United States, complete with a label that indicates its toxicity.

This argument would be somewhat effective if there were not so many studies highlighting the harmful effects of fluoride. In addition to the studies, officials from around the globe have been calling for an end to fluoridation since its inception. The Department of Health in New Jersey found that areas with fluoridated water had between two and seven times higher bone cancer rates than communities that were not fluoridated. In another famous study, neurotoxicologist and former Director of toxicology at Forsyth Dental Center in Boston, Dr. Phyllis Mullenix found that even moderate levels of fluoride exposure led to varying degrees of brain damage. The damage was caused due to fluoride building up in the brain.

What is more shocking is that even the offspring of the studied animals were affected. While the doses were relatively low, the animals experienced permanent effects to the brain that were similar to ADD symptoms. Other studies throughout the past 50 years have linked fluoride to osteoarthritis, inhibited thyroid function, decreased sperm count, cancer, decreased strength, and much more. One of the most recent studies found that fluoride may not help teeth at all.

The flagship of chemical pollution

Fluoride is not the only thing in your water. Cocaine was recently found in the drinking water, along with various hormones. Unfortunately, traces of cocaine may be the least of your worries. Other toxic pollutants are often found in the drinking water across the United States. Even if you do not drink tap water directly, it can also be in many products such as soda or beer. Foods absorb water as well, and your food may be absorbing these pollutants. One of the best options to prevent against exposure to these chemicals is to purchase a high quality water filter, or get your water from a pure source such as a spring.

It is important to remember that these pollutants can also be absorbed or inhaled by the body during showering. A high quality shower filter is a necessity for everyone who does not have a house-wide filtration system. Protecting yourself from toxic tap water is very important, but it is vital that the citizens of the world correct the problem the correct way. It is time that water fluoridation comes to an end worldwide. With many nations leading the way in the war against water fluoridation, the proper momentum has been generated. The United States remains as one of the last stubborn countries to refuse to look at the facts. Tell everyone you know about the toxic effects of water fluoridation, and allow them to research the facts for themselves. Through peaceful and intelligent means, water fluoridation can easily be stopped.
