Watch Out, These Top Thanksgiving Foods are Surprisingly Full of GMOs

You don’t really want to feed your family food made from crops grown with millions of pounds of glyphosate this holiday season, do you? Of course not. Sadly, two ‘standards’ of the American feast are baked goods from brands like Pepperidge Farm and Pillsbury – two companies whose products are loaded with GMOs and other damaging ingredients.

Of course, these aren’t the only brands that Americans unknowingly purchase which are contaminated with GMOs, they are just used often – especially during the holidays. Check out an article I wrote recently outlining 6 GMO-loaded companies to avoid buying from.

Pillsbury is a subsidiary of General Mills (GM), the same company which helped to contribute more than $1,515,000 to anti-labeling campaigns. They likely don’t want you to know that Pillsbury products contain GMO sugar, GMO soybean oil, BT toxic cottonseed oil, and GMO xantham gum.

With the parent company of Campbell, Pepperidge Farm is one of GM’s competitors, and they often do things in tandem to try to win market share. Too bad they also use GMO products in their baked goods. Again, their baked goods contain GMO soy, GMO sugar, GMO cottonseed, and GMO corn in the form of high fructose corn syrup. The company has actually been sneaking GMOs into people’s food since the early 1990s.
Campbell has also been sued for using the ‘all natural label’ on their soups, which are full of GMOs too. The company tried to have the lawsuit dismissed. As if this wasn’t bad enough, Campbell donated $500,000 through the Grocery Manufacturer’s Associationto defeat California’s GMO labeling bill last year.

These companies would be happy for you to keep dining on biotech crops designed to withstand atrocious applications of chemicals. They want us to lather on the non-organic butter, made form cow’s fed GMO soy, corn and alfalfa – thanks Land O’ Lakes, for that contribution.  These companies also want to keep us in the dark and not know what we’re really eating.

When you count your blessings this holiday season and sit down with your family to a feast of good tidings, don’t forget to give thanks for healthful, non-GMO food. Skip Pepperidge Farm and Pillsbury baked goods and you’ll be well on your way.  There are some great substitutes listed here.
