An excellent but unusual treatment is to apply flour to the burn immediately after the injury; it is amazingly effective. The longer the flour is on the burn the more benefit.

Apply shaving cream to a burn…it is soothing and easily washed off when you reach medical care…do not use the menthol nor other types like it and no shaving gels..just use regular, old fashioned shaving cream….learned this from Emergency Professionals in the 1980's….effective…but remember…NO MENTHOL or gels..just old fashioned shaving cream..

  3. wow…i never thought that there are actually numerous ways of treating burns inside the house. I don't know if it is effective but growing up involved in the kitchen with my mother usually leads to having a couple of burns during preparation of our meals, every time i get one my mom just run it through water and apply toothpaste. I don't know what you think about that… i would love to hear your opinion about my mom's remedy.

Hi James, that makes sense because toothpaste is good for pimples too – it “dries” them out… overnight…. BUT most toothpaste has flouride and other chemicals and so putting on skin (even for pimples) gets those chemicals into the blood stream. I really do like the other “remedies” mentioned. They DO NO HARM to the bloodstream or organs of the body when applied 😉 I get cuts & scrapes/burns too in the kitchen & sometimes use a little Pain Cream I found that is made in USA & from 11 Essential Oils (mentioned in Bible as “healing oils” like the Lavender mentioned in this good article). No pain, no blistering and fast healing. You can find me on Facebook rs.mallory.5 for more info if you are interested 😉
