Dr. Oz Slams Glyphosate, Monsanto, and Regulators Allowing its Release
To honor April 7th as World Health Day, Dr. Oz covered the World Health Organization’s (WHO) recent classification of the herbicide glyphosate as a possible carcinogen. As his record shows in the past, Dr. Oz is known to flip-flop and ride the fence of hot button health tops. Often times he ends up on the wrong side of right, yet for this episode, Dr. Oz gave the public a fair and accurate portrayal of Monsanto’s flagship carcinogenic product, glyphosate.
Appearing live with Dr. Oz was pediatrician Dr. Alan Greene, Scott Faber of the Environmental Working Group (EWG), and food advocate Robyn O’Brien. Early in the episode, Dr. Oz stated for the record:
“My goal is to always have an open and honest conversation, you all know that, but I couldn’t get anyone to appear on the show that supports glyphosate. I reached out to the Grocery Manufacturers of America, Crop Life America, and Monsanto and they all declined to be on the show.”
During the course of the conversation, all three guests, along with Dr. Oz, sided with the WHO’s carcinogenic classification of glyphosate, discouraged its use, and warned of its numerous health effects. Refuting Monsanto’s official talking point that “Glyphosate does not pose a risk to humans, wildlife, or the environment,” Dr. Green stated “That’s just not true.” He then backed up his statement with verifiable studies that directly and completely contradicted Monsanto’s talking point.
In light of the new WHO classification, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has been forced to “reassess glyphosate.” Giving an environmental perspective, EWG’s vice president Scott Faber stated:
“The EPA should take another look at it (glyphosate), but let’s not forget, the EPA got this wrong. For 20 years we’ve been told that this herbicide is a better alternative…and it turns out the world’s leading experts (WHO) now have found this is probably a human carcinogen.”
Representing mothers, families, and communities, food industry analyst turned food activist Robyn O’Brien said:
“If you step back and think about this big chemical company (Monsanto), this is one of their most profitable products, so of course they’re going to try to dismiss any concern around it and refute the science.”
Finally, Dr. Oz sounded off on the side of his guests, and arguable most of the educated world, by saying for the record:
“This is a big debate everyone. Folks who make these products say ‘we need more data before you can make that statement (glyphosate is a possible carcinogen).’ I think it’s the opposite. Not enough research doesn’t mean it’s safe, it means we actually don’t know! And it’s upon us; it’s our obligation to figure it out before we start releasing it and exposing kids and others.”
Regardless of where the conversation ends up, having Dr. Oz cover this topic was a sign that the mainstream is being forced to report on what matters in their struggle to remain relevant. Having Dr. Oz publicly side with families and communities around the world in rejecting glyphosate was the cherry on top.
I don’t care for the hype that Dr. Oz creates, but this position in a public setting – like his own TV show, took courage. The grocery people – a primary advertising buyer for daytime TV – will come after him big time.
Monsanto says the reason glyphosate is harmless to humans is because we lack the shikimic metabolic pathway that plants have ( that is how they take in glyphosate ). This sounds good until you realize that our immune systems have billions and billions of beneficial bacteria ( these are our tiny friends that work 24/7 to protect us from diseases and environmental toxins )…..and, guess what, ALL these beneficial bacteria have the shikimic metabolic pathway, so glyphosate damages or destroys our “friends” who are trying to protect us. Therefore, while it may be true that glyphosate does not directly give us diseases, it weakens our immune systems so that we are more susceptible to a whole host of ailments and diseases. This happens over a period of years, but just as Monsanto’s other products like DDT, PCBs, and Agent Orange, glyphosate is something that you will avoid now IF YOU HAVE ANY SENSE AT ALL…..or
you can be like a lab rat in Monsanto’s uncontrollable experiments
….of course real lab rats will have one advantage over you, since they
do not have to PAY for the privilege of being poisoned….P.S. glyphosate also hurts our pollinator friends, the Honeybees…P.P.S….Hillary Clinton is a fervent Monsanto supporter, as is Barack Obama…..with leaders like this, we truly do not need enemies !
good for you for pointing this out… they keep the lid on all this information. Did you know Maui County is the biggest BT (GM) corn producer in the world? There is also GM crops & experimentation all over the Hawaiian Islands. Kauai county has a large rate of infant deformity’s of intestines being outside the body, (i forget the name of the defect)Monsanto is a huge presence in Hawaii. Out in the middle of no-where, how convenient. The shikimate pathway information is vital to be presented. Another thing is there are not independent safety studies, these companies self regulate and the FDA accepts their word. And they spend billions along with the other food giants to fight labeling to keep us from knowing and choosing. And glyphosate sterilizes the soil because it kills the microbes there…. great, just what we need worse soil!
I’m not a fan of his either. He’s IMHO a hypocrite. Let’s put it this way, he’s drinking buddies with Oprah and Dr. Phil.
But this will be a kick in the nads of his sheeple! Wonder what Oprah is thinking now since she’s pimping GMO’s too.
Another kick in your crotch Bobo!!
Bobo has a crotch!
A vag’!!
Yes, Dr. Oz may be a very good heart surgeon. But that doesn’t make him an expert on GMOs. That’s an argument from authority fallacy.
What Dr. Oz seems to be doing is getting all people the right to choose what they put in their bodies, as a free country we do have the right to be able to see what is going into our foods and any other item that keeps us free of harmful chemicals. GMO should be labeled and not hidden from the consumer. Anything that keeps us healthy we have the right to choose!

Look up his involvement in marketing and selling green coffee beans as a miracle weight loss cure. Magic beans indeed.
The woo-meister also did a couple of amusing videos on homeopathy.
Ah one of our resident trolls back again slamming another knowledgeable and respected leader of our community.
How much did Monsanto pay you for this little gem of a story (fantasy)?
How much does Dr Oz pay you to defend him?
See how stupid that kind of claim sounds?
““My goal is to always have an open and honest conversation, you all
know that, but I couldn’t get anyone to appear on the show that supports
glyphosate. I reached out to the Grocery Manufacturers of America, Crop
Life America, and Monsanto and they all declined to be on the show.”
Should this surprise anyone- Monsanto and their goons are trying to hide their deadly secret from the media so that they can continue on deceiving the public.
yep, they don’t want the public who are not familiar with GMO’s to start asking what it is. Monsanto, Bayer, Dow, GMA, coca cola etc spent around $11,100,000 just to fight the proposed labeling law in WA State.
Anyone who defends Monsanto either is uninformed or is Monsanto.
You’re right!!!!
“My goal is to always have an open and honest conversation…” – LOL. So he got it right this time – I still have no interest in such a hypocrite. On record as not vaccinating his own kids, yet tells you you must inject yours.
At least he has the guts to speak out and present factual information in the face of the GMO giants. The studies these men are discussing are real. This is not just words. The World Health org is real. Most figureheads and politicians support Monsanto because they are a huge influential company who, btw, created the wonderful agent orange. Monsanto Exec Michael Taylor is now the ‘food czar’ of the FDA, give me a break. I would venture to say this is a conflict of interest… fact not fiction
Expressing popular opinions is not courageous. Oz is selling products.
correct, he is not afraid to present all sides of issues…or alternative, natural remedies, which is the basis of medicine in the first place. this is true journalism
