Non-GMO Rallies Spring up Nationwide for World Food Day
The month of October has been declared Non-GMO month, and October 16th is being recognized as World Food Day. In celebration of this month, activists and health-conscious individuals will be forming protests around the country to voice their opposition to genetically modified ingredients being deceptively placed into consumer products worldwide by mega biotechnology companies such as Monsanto. Millions Against Monsanto, an organization of the Organic Consumers Association, will be hosting protests nationwide featuring guest speakers and other events.
As government officials continue to ignore the fact that 90% of the public is in favor of labeling products containing GMOs, activists are increasingly voicing their concerns through peaceful protest and political legislation. Of course the protesters have a reason to make a scene, with genetically modified ingredients being linked to conditions such as:
- Lung damage
- Various cancers
- Seedless crops, causing farmers to continually buy new seeds
- Damaged organs
- Suppressed immune system
- Inhibited milk production from cows
- An increased mortality rate
- Uncontrollable cross-pollination of GM seeds from wind, birds, and insects.
