Unfortunately, Americans have some of the worst diets in the world, and everyone else knows it. With the average American consuming 24 lbs of artificial sweeteners, 29 lbs of french fries, and over 600 lbs of dairy per year, the average American is in a state of crisis. The average American diet is heavily responsible for the escalating obesity rates and is ultimately contributing to the development of illness and diseases.

The Average American Diet

According to the below infographic, the average American consumes about 1 gallon of soda per week, which equates to more than 18 fluid ounces, or 1.5 sodas per day. These sodas are loaded with sugar, with a 12oz can containing 35-45 grams – an amount that exceeds the recommended daily intake of ~15 grams. What’s more, these sugars are typically in the form of high-fructose corn syrup, one of the cheapest, and most health-hazardous forms of sugar that can be used.

Another concerning number in the average American diet is the amount of artificial sweeteners consumed; this includes substances like aspartame, Splenda, Sweet N’ Low, and Equal. None of these artificial sweeteners are healthful, and are even having a negative impact on your health.

One study found that 67% of female rats exposed to aspartame developed tumors roughly the size of golf balls or larger.

Is Splenda safe? This toxic sweetener also has many dangers. Some effects associated with Splenda are shortness of breath, joint pains, eye irritation, swelling of facial muscles, ski breaking out into hives or rashes, and more.

Saccharin, best known as Sweet ‘N Low has been shown to have carcinogenic links. During the 1960′s, studies on rats indicated saccharin was related to bladder cancer, but the FDA has allowed saccharin to remain as a food additive.

Needless to say, there are many more problems associated with the average American diet. While consumption of food shown in weight (as the inforgraphic shows) isn’t the absolute best way to pinpoint the issues with any diet, the numbers do give us a representation and idea of how much we’re eating. If you want to compare generalizations between nations around the world, take a look at what the world eats.

Check out the infographic below for some startling statistics.

A woman from New Zealand who reportedly drank as much as 2.6 gallons of Coca-Cola per day to fuel her ‘Coke addiction’ has died, and experts are saying that her serious craving for pop was a major contributor. The news could not come at a worse time for Coca-Cola, who has already been hit by both government bodies and consumers alike for their cancer-linked beverage. In fact, the Coca-Cola company made an emergency recipe change in March to remove an ingredient known as 4-methylimidazole (4-MI or 4-MEI) that would have required a cancer warning labeling to be slapped onto the soft drink.

As it was recently removed to avoid the label, this means that Natasha Harris’ Coca-Cola excessive consumption was accompanied by the carcinogenic ingredient. In addition to 4-methylimidazole, Harris also consumed gallons and gallons of a liquid containing aspartame, high-fructose corn syrup, and 40 grams of sugar per can. When you perform some simple math, you can see that Harris actually consumed around 41 and one half 8-ounce cans of Coca-Cola on her heaviest binge drinking days. Further equations show that, at 39 grams per 8-ounce can, Harris was taking in around 1,618 grams of sugar per day. To put that into perspective, that’s 1,598 grams more than the recommended daily limit.

According to expert Dr. Dan Mornin, Harris probably suffered from hypokalemia, or low potassium. Mornin says that this was most likely a result of her excessive Coke consumption, which severely affected her bones. To answer the question as to how anyone could possibly consume such copious amounts of soda despite the serious health risks, it’s important to examine the research regarding sugar addiction. Not only has sugar addiction been labeled as the ‘new alcoholism‘ by health professionals, but a growing body of research also has found that it is actually as addictive as cocaine.

Another health professional expressed concerns over the consumption of Coca-Cola and other sugary beverages, stating:

“it is certainly well demonstrated that excessive long or short term cola ingestion can be dramatically symptomatic, and there are strong hypothetical grounds for this becoming fatal in individual cases.”

Proving once again that soda consumption leads to a massive decline in health, recent research gives people just one more reason to stay away from the sugar-laden beverages. The recent study shows how consuming only one soda or sugar-sweetened beverage per day can result in a 20 percent increased risk of coronary heart disease in men.

Heart Disease Risk Increased by 20 Percent from Soda Consumption

For 22 years, researchers from the Harvard School of Public Health tracked approximately 43,000 individuals, including dentists, pharmacists, physicians, veterinarians, and other health professionals ages 40 to 75. During this time, the participating men filled out surveys telling of their diet and other health habits. Blood samples were also collected by the researchers from over 18,000 men.

The blood sample tests showed that individuals consuming sugary beverages very often had higher higher levels of dangerous blood fats known as triglycerides and proteins linking to heart disease. The research, published in the American Heart Association’s journal Circulation, found that 12 ounces of sugar drinks such as soda, fruit drinks, or other beverages with added sugar rose the risk of heart disease by 20 percent. Heart disease risk increased with each additional sugary beverage consumed.

This research comes shortly after soft drink giants Coca-Cola and Pepsi Co. took action in removing a carcinogenic ingredient from their soft drink formulas, still insisting that the cancer-linked substance was ‘safe’. Consumer watchdog group Center for Sciences in the Public Interest has been urging the Food and Drug Administration for quite some time to ban the use of the carcinogenic ingredient used as caramel coloring, but it wasn’t until very recently the soft drink giants decided to remove it. The removal, however, wasn’t initiated to protect consumers from the harmful nature of the substances, but rather to avoid being slapped with a cancer warning label.

Needless to say, the health risks soft drinks pose to your health is not limited to coronary heart disease or the carcinogenic nature of the recently removed caramel coloring. These beverages are packed with cancer-inducing sugars, often in the form of high-fructose corn syrup, and contribute to countless health complications. With the consumption of sugary beverages comes an increased risk of diabetes, obesity, pancreatic cancer, metabolic syndrome, and DNA damage, to name a few.

Responsible for giving colas their popular brown look, a widely used food coloring known as caramel coloring may be increasing your cancer risk. Consumer watchdog group Center for Sciences in the Public Interest is so consumed over caramel coloring that they have been urging the Food and Drug Administration for quite some time to ban the use of the ingredient.

Caramel Coloring Shown to be Causing Health Complications

First writing the FDA in 2011, CSPI mentioned how 2-methylimidazole (2-MI) and 4-methylimidazole (4-MI), which form upon creation of caramel coloring, are causing lung, liver, and thyroid cancer in mice. In a more recent letter written by the CSPI executive director Michael F. Jacobson to FDA Commissioner Dr. Margaret Hamburg, Jacobson told the commissioner how recent lab analyses showed very high levels of 4-MI in sodas. The state of California recommends a limit of 29 micrograms for 4-MI, but the analyses showed levels exceeding that by nearly 5 times.

“When most people see ‘caramel coloring’ on food labels, they likely interpret that quite literally and assume the ingredient is similar to what you might get by gently melting sugar in a saucepan. The reality it quite different,” said Jacobson in a statement.

“The caramel coloring added to soft drinks serves a totally cosmetic function,…we suspect that most consumers would prefer a clear beverage without an unnecessary carcinogen over a dark-brown beverage with a carcinogen,” the letter said.

While caramel coloring may be a potential issue, the real threats continue to be high-fructose corn syrup, aspartame, and the deathly amount of sugar used in soft drinks. Known for containing toxic mercury, high-fructose corn syrup has been shown to cause obesity, liver damage, and cancer. The amount of sugar added to soft drinks, almost always in the form of high-fructose corn syrup, is also of great concern. Carcinogenic sugars are running rampant in the food supply, with an average bottle of Coke containing 60 grams. These over-consumed sugars are leading to DNA damage, altered cellular metabolism, increased production of free radicals, obesity, cancer, and much more.

To avoid the hazards of these sugars and hopefully lose weight, soda drinkers often turn to diet sodas instead. Unfortunately a toxic artificial sweetener known as aspartame is simply replacing high-fructose corn syrup in the health-destruction. Instead of containing mercury like high-fructose corn syrup, aspartame instead poses a different threat – the sweetener is made through a process that involves genetically modified bacteria. Consuming this ingredient has been linked to tumor development, hastened kidney function decline, a number of neurological symptoms, and will not help you lose weight.

Approximately 18.7 million adults and 7 million children had asthma in 2010. Causing wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and coughing, the western medical establishment suggests (as always) taking a pharmaceutical drug. But before you do, I would suggest educating yourself on not only the harms of such drugs, but also how to prevent asthma with natural solutions.

How to Prevent Asthma Without the Pharmaceuticals

Following a long line of reports finding pharmaceutical drugs to be deadlier than traffic accidents and many illegal drugs, it was uncovered that many asthma drugs are actually killing more patients than asthma itself. The use of these drugs have been shown to result in nearly 4,000 deaths per year, which is more than the disease itself. What’s worse is that the Food and Drug Administration has known about this for years. Instead of heeding the warnings of many doctors and recalling or even just ending the production of these products, a simple makeover of warning labels on the drugs were mandated.

So if you shouldn’t take the drugs, then what should you do? As always, there are things to avoid as well as many natural solutions for how to prevent asthma which can be utilized.

Due to the widespread usa of air fresheners and similar chemical concoctions such as scented candles, plug-in deodorizers, and wick diffusers, many more people are suffering fromasthma and allergies than would normally be the case. The chemicals used in these items have been shown to trigger nasal congestion, sneezing, and runny nose.

In addition to avoiding these aromatic products, soda consumption should be decreased. Research has pinpointed soda for upping the risk for respiratory diseases like asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). After conducting a survey with nearly 17,000 individuals, researchers found that 13.3 percent of those with asthma and 15.6 percent of those with COPD drank more than two cups, or about half a liter, of soda each day.

If you’re wondering how to prevent asthma with dietary changes, here are some tips. A study published in the American Journal of Respiratory Critical Care Medicine showed that adults who ate apples twice a week reduced their asthma risk by about a 1/3. Another study showed that children with mothers who ate apples during pregnancy were less prone to asthma for their first five years after being born.

In addition to apples, you may want to try a little-known herb called khella. Khella has been used to treat many conditions for many, many years. Commonly known to be a solution for kidney stones, this herb also treats asthma by soothing muscle spasms of the bronchial airways.

Even if you don’t find these solutions to help you personally, consider this before indulging in harmful medication or inhalers. According to results of a pilot study published Wednesday in The New England Journal of Medicine, thirty-nine asthma patients reported about as much perceived relief from a placebo inhaler and sham acupuncture as from an inhaled dose of an asthma-fighting steroid, albuterol. There have been numerous occasions where pharmaceuticals have been shown to be ineffective while placebos pave the way for your mind to ignite self-healing.

Don’t forget to share these tips on how to prevent asthma with others so that natural solutions can rise once again!

If you do, I suggest you find one that knows what natural healing is and how it works using herbs, nutraceuticals and other adjunctive remedies. Only practitioners using drugs are allowed to claim they treat, prevent or cure disease. Natural healing practitioners may not make that claim even if their protocols actually do.

What to do and not to do – How to be Well Through Natural Healing

If you don’t know by now, pathogens are not the causes of dis-ease. They are a sign, signal or symptom of the true underlining cause; and that cause is The HONSTEC Syndrome. Of all the components of this acronym, E is most vital. E stands for Energy-in-Motion. All life depends on harmonious free flowing energy. After all, without life force energy, we cease to exist.

The other six components of this syndrome are contributing factors to the loss of energy, both at a cellular level and the body in general. Pathogenic organisms are merely opportunistic scavengers attracted to toxic, nutrient imbalanced, dehydrated hosts; humans. Regardless, there are steps they we can take to minimize exposure to and proliferation of these pathogens. Here are a few ideas.

To help avoid any infection, you should first stop doing those things that contribute to sickness and start doing those things that contribute to health. Here is a short list:

Stop –

1. Eating junk food; fried, preserved, microwaved, cooked-to-death, commercial, pesticide-laden “stuff.” There is no vitality, energy or nutrients to speak of.

2. Drinking soda filled with sugar, phosphoric acid, preservatives, dyes and other toxic chemicals. Sodas are extremely unhealthy.

3. Eating sugar! Sugar is the number one additive that compromises the immune system, creates an acid pH, lowers tissue oxygen and contributes to sickness and dis-ease. If you do eat any sugar at all, you must do something to negate, block or burn it off. Along with soda, sugar contributes to osteoporosis and the loss of vital minerals.

4. Smoking cigarettes, cigars or use of any tobacco.

5. Eating or drinking commercial, pasteurized diary products — especially if you have a lung infection. To the contrary, raw, UNpasteurized diary provides nutrients and healthy probiotics and therefore is good to consume in moderation.

6. Using your cell phone without an ear piece or Bluetooth connection.

7. Drinking alcohol in excess. One portion; glass of wine, beer or drink per day can easily be metabolized by the body and liver without complications, more than that and you risk having problems including dehydration and nutrient depletion.

8. Avoiding the sun. The sun is the single best way to acquire much needed vitamin D3. Do not use sun screen; however, do not get a sun burn.

9. Negative thoughts about you and your life or your friends or loved ones. Negative thoughts are toxic and will help to create sickness and dis-ease. The number one negative emotion is fear. Fear is usually generated from not knowing. Education and taking effect action remove fear.

Start -

1. Hydrating the body by drinking at least 64 oz. of pristine distilled water daily with added electrolytic minerals. Add an alkalizer to insure an alkaline pH, negative ionic charge and to neutralize the effects of chlorine.

2. Detoxifying the body on a regular basis.

3. Remineralize and fortify the body with a full complex of mineral supplement.

4. Regulating and normalizing glucose.

5. Modulating the immune system with any one of many foods and products including garlic, onions, horseradish, cruciferous vegetables, Asian mushrooms and more.

6. Relaxing by getting plenty of rest and sleep.

7. Oxygenating through regular, effective exercise.

8. De-Stressing by practicing stress releasing techniques like EFT or the Healing Codes.

9. Washing your hands each time you touch possible contaminated articles and especially after shaking someone’s hand. Wash your hands at least three or more times per day. Do NOT use anti-bacterial soap as this only lowers your resistance to infections over time.

10. Avoiding people that are coughing and sneezing or are obviously sick. Although only sick people get sick there is no need to be heavily exposed.

11. Eating a lot of alkaline foods. Pathogenic organisms typically do NOT thrive in an alkaline environment. Eat and juice the following now and forever:

A. Alkalinizing Vegetables

Alfalfa, Barley Grass, Beets, Beet Greens, Broccoli, Cabbage, Carrot, Cauliflower, Celery, Chard Greens, Chlorella, Collard Greens, Cucumber, Dandelions, Dulce, Edible Flowers, Eggplant, Fermented Veggies, Garlic, Green Beans, Green Peas, Kale, Kohlrabi, Lettuce, Mushrooms, Mustard Greens, Nightshade Veggies, Onions, Parsnips (caution: high glycemic), Peas, Peppers, Pumpkin, Radishes, Rutabaga, Sea Veggies, Spinach, Spirulina, Sprouts, Sweet Potatoes, Tomatoes, Watercress, Wheat Grass and Wild Greens.

B. Alkalinizing Fruits

Apple, Apricot, Avocado, Banana (caution: high glycemic), Berries, Blackberries, Cantaloupe Cherries (sour), Coconut (fresh), Currants, Dates (dried), Figs (dried), Grapes, Grapefruit, Honeydew Melon, Lemon, Lime, Muskmelons, Nectarine, Orange, Peach, Pear, Pineapple, Raisins, Raspberries, Rhubarb, Strawberries. Tangerine, Tomato, Tropical Fruits, Umeboshi Plums and Watermelon.

C. Alkalinizing Protein

Almonds, Chestnuts, Millet, Tempeh (fermented), Tofu (fermented), Whey Protein Powder, Super Kamut™.

D. Alkalinizing Other

Apple Cider Vinegar, Bee Pollen, Lecithin Granules, Molasses (blackstrap), Probiotic Cultures, Soured Dairy Products, Green Juices, Veggie Juices, Fresh Fruit Juice, Mineral Water, Alkaline Antioxidant Water.

E. Alkalinizing Sweeteners

Stevia, Xylitol (neutralizes).

F. Alkalinizing Minerals

Cesium: pH 14, Potassium: pH 14, Sodium: pH 14, Calcium: pH 12, Magnesium: pH 9

G. Alkalinizing Spices and Seasonings

Cinnamon, Curry, Ginger, Mustard, Chili Pepper, Sea Salt, Miso, Tamari, All Herbs including the following teas: ginger, cayenne, red clover, etc.

H. Alkalinizing Oriental Vegetables

Maitake, Daikon, Dandelion Root, Shitake, Kombu, Reishi, Nori, Umeboshi, Wakame.

I. Potassium Broth Soup

In a large cooking pot cut up fresh, organic vegetables such as cabbage, celery, potato, onions, garlic, beets, carrots, ginger and others. Pour distilled water to top. Simmer for a couple of hours then screen off the vegetables leaving pure vegetable broth. Drink as much as you want.

Remember, you don’t need to adhere strictly to the alkaline side of the chart, just make sure a good percentage of the foods you eat come from that side. Our bodies are alkaline by design and acid by function. The fluids that make up 75% plus of your body must remain alkaline for you to experience optimal health. Maintaining proper alkalinity is essential for life, health, and vitality. Simply, an imbalance of alkalinity creates a condition favorable to the growth of bacteria, yeast and other unwanted organisms. All leading biochemists and medical physiologists have recognized pH (or the acid-alkaline balance) as the most important aspect of a balanced and healthy body.

These highly consumed beverages contain massive amounts of sugar and toxic ingredients, leading to a great deal of health complications. Research has found that those who drink soda on a daily basis are increasing their risk of heart attack and stroke.

Diet Soda Increases Risk of Heart Attack and Stroke

Lead researcher Hannah Gardener and her team studied 2,564 adults aged 69 years or older in New York City over the course of 10 years. During the time period, 591 men and women had a heart attack, stroke, or died of cardiovascular causes. Researchers found that diet soda consumption was linked to a 44 percent higher chance of heart attack or stroke, up from the 22 percent non-soda drinkers have.

Although the findings are sad for soda-consumers, it is only a glimpse of how soda and diet soda can really cause problems. Most sodas contain very large quantities of sugar. This sugar often comes in some refined form, like high-fructose corn syrup, which is even more dangerous than regular sugar and is known to contain mercury. The over-consumption of sugar alone can actually damage the body in a number of ways, including damaging DNA, causing inflammation, altering cellular metabolism, increasing production of free radicals, and causing cancer. Amazingly, high-fructose corn syrup is even worse.

Research released by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) shows that half of the US population above age 2 consumes sugary drinks like soda daily. Around 5 percent of the population consumes more than 4 12-ounce cans of soda every day. Needless to say, these stats go very much against the recommendation of the American Heart Association, which is to drink less than 3 cans of soda per week. But even soda with little or no sugar is harmful.

Marketed for containing little to no sugar, diet soda could even be worse than regular soda due to the addition of a toxic sweetener called aspartame. Aspartame has been shown to cause neurological issues as well as cancerous brain tumors. One study even found that 67 percent of female rats exposed to aspartame developed tumors about the size of golf balls.

To add to the health issues, one infographic shows that:

Drinking two sodas per week increases risk of pancreatic cancer by 87 percent.

Drinking one soda per day increases risk of metabolic syndrome by 44 percent and a child’s risk of becoming obese by 60 percent.

Drinking two sodas per day increases risk of gout by 85 percent.

The dangerous effects of soda need to be properly addressed. Although many soda drinkers are aware of the health risks, with each instance of realization comes another greater chance for consumption to come to a halt.

In addition to these negative effects, new research has also pinpointed soda for upping the risk for respiratory diseases like asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Soda Consumption Increases Asthma and COPD Risks

The study, conducted by Australian researchers and published in the February 7 issue of Respirology, aimed to examine the association between soda consumption and doctor-diagnosed asthma and COPD. Study conductors surveyed nearly 17,000 individuals in Southern Australia asking them about their soda consumption. The soft drinks included in the study were Coke, lemonade, flavored mineral water, Powerade, Gatorade, and all other soda types.

Researchers found that 13.3 percent of those with asthma and 15.6 percent of those with COPD drank more than two cups, or about half a liter, of soda each day. As with any other disease that may come from soda consumption, the risk increases with higher amounts of consumption.

“Our study emphasizes the importance of healthy eating and drinking in the prevention of chronic diseases like asthma and COPD,” study author Dr. Zumin Shi, a researcher at the University of Adelaide in Australia, stated.

This news certainly isn’t the first to tie soda consumption with health complications, but it gives even more reason for you to remove soda from your diet. When soda is ingested, your body is often assaulted with mercury-containing high-fructose corn syrup in addition to a conglomeration of pesticides and processed sugars. An average bottle of Coke contains over 60 grams of sugar, while a Vitamin Water contains up to 13 grams. Increasingly it is being recognized that the substantial level of sugar consumption inside the United States and elsewhere is responsible for many of the health issues the average person faces, including obesity, diabetes, and chronic lethal afflictions like cancer and heart disease.

One soda consumption infographic shows that 21 percent of all the sugar in the average American diet comes from soda alone.

Drinking two soft drinks per week increases risk of pancreatic cancer by 87 percent.

Drinking one soft drink per day increases risk of metabolic syndrome by 44 percent and a child’s risk of becoming obese by 60 percent.

Drinking two soft drinks per day increases risk of gout by 85 percent.

With the soft drink industry raking in roughly $50 billion per year, there is no doubt that a solution is needed for the very apparent soda drinking epidemic.

Unfortunately, along with the increased popularity comes a number of increased health risks. Most sodas contain very large quantities of sugar. This sugar often comes in some refined form, like high-fructose corn syrup, which is even more dangerous than regular sugar and is known to contain mercury.

Diet sodas often contain aspartame or some other form of artificial sweetener, which is no better and often does more damage to the individual. Consuming large quantities of these beverages on a regular basis — as many do — easily is responsible for a number of health issues today.

Drinking large amounts of sugar as opposed to health-promoting pure water will prove to have effects on your physical and mental health. With a lack of proper nutritional intake, it’s impossible to function properly. Recent studies suggest that soda consumption has an effect on mental health, making teenagers exhibit violent behavior.

Recently a new study has shown that drinking diet soda results in compromised vascular health, contributing to stroke, heart attacks and vascular death. The research showed that people who drank diet sodas daily were more likely to suffer a vascular event.

There is already a large amount of evidence mounting to suggest that these and other products that use artificial sweeteners have serious effects on our health, contributing to obesity, diabetes, mental health problems, and heart disease.

Aspartame has been linked to neurological issues, as well as brain tumors. Many of these artificial sweeteners feature prominently in a number of products besides popular soft drinks. Aspartame for example is used in nearly every brand of chewing gum today and a number of processed foods.

The dangerous effects these artificial sweeteners should be properly addressed, along with the fact that the average diet is often lacking in proper nutritional intake. Attending to both of these concerns is a proper step in achieving more optimal health.
Admits Mouse Body Would Disintigrate from Mountain Dew" width="210" height="131" title="Pepsi Co. Admits Mouse Body Would Disintigrate from Mountain Dew" />There has been some rather shocking news lately concerning the multi-national mega corporation Pepsi Co. and their highly popular beverage Mountain Dew. After reportedly finding a mouse in a Mountain Dew can in 2009, Ronald Ball from Illinois is in the process of suing the soft drink giant after finding a dead mouse in his soda can.Needless to say, Pepsi Co. is completely refuting his claims, saying that the mouse he found could not have been there as the drink is so acidic the mouse would have disintegrated before he opened it. The company says that the mouse carcass would have decomposed into a “jelly-like” substance.

Although Pepsi Co. is in opposition with Ron Balls claims, a mouse body disintegrating in a can of soda isn’t any better than finding a dead mouse inside. It is interesting to see that Pepsi Co. has no problem admitting to such an outrageous effect that could have been caused by their beverage. This information certainly says a lot about the products manufactured by the company. Here is a segment from a copy of Pepsi’s opposition to Ron Ball’s motion obtained by CBC News:

“As Dr. McGill explains, if a mouse is submerged in a fluid with the acidity of Mountain Dew, after 4 to 7 days in the fluid the mouse will have no calcium in its bones and bony structures, the mouse’s abdominal structure will rupture, and its cranial cavity (head) is also likely to rupture… By 30 days of exposure to the fluid, all of the mouse’s structures will disintegrate to the point where the structures (excepting possibly a portion of the tail) will not be recognizable and, therefore, the animal itself will not be recognizable. Instead, after 30 days in the fluid, the mouse will have been transformed into a ‘jelly-like’ substance.”

Hopefully people will not lose sight of the real news here. We have a mega corporation producing a liquid ingested by millions of people – liquid that is capable of disintegrating the body of a mouse. It is well known that soda is completely unhealthy and causes obesity diabetes, and all types of other health problems thanks to chemical additives and high sugar content, but this shocking information could very well be the tipping point for many soda-drinkers.
