Monsanto Kicked Out of Greece and Latvia: GM Bans Sweep Through Europe
As other EU nations take action

First Scotland and Germany booted GMOs from their countries, citing fear of GMO crops contaminating their food supplies and concern over putting their food and beverage industries in jeopardy. Now, Greece and Latvia are telling Monsanto exactly what they can do with their genetically modified crops. The tide is turning. A tipping point just became evident through the actions of two additional European countries who have had enough of the Biotech strong arm.
Latvia and Greece have opted out of GMOs, as are Germany and Scotland, as part of the new allowances indicated in legislation that recently passed for EU countries.
The geographical opt-outs specifically target Monsanto’s MON810 GM Maize, which countries may choose to grow or refuse in the next several months. This is currently the only genetically modified crop allowed to be grown within the EU at present – but only when countries give specific permission.
As Sustainable Pulse explains, “while the European Commission is responsible for approvals, requests to be excluded also have to be submitted to the company making the application i.e. Monsanto for MON810.”
If additional member states deny Monsanto, we can be assured that the biotech company will try to find other ways to force their GM crops on the world (e.g. the Trans Pacific Trade partnership) but as we collectively say NO, upholding bans, and demanding labeling, we will rid this planet of the plague that is genetically modified food.

GMO, there is never a wrong time to stop planting food that cannot reproduce and has been proven to cause tumors in animals… If the bugs can’t eat it then we are foolish to think its good for us!
And bill what food can’t reproduce? Also what food is causing tumors? You aren’t talking about the ones that have been eaten for the last twenty years without any issues are you?
That would be the corn, soy, watermelons, grapes etc… Many do not even have seeds period. You can’t claim to be trying to feed the world when plants can’t reproduce.
As for 20 years with no issues, have you seen the rates of Cancer?!!??! Its predicted that 1 out of 3 will get cancer by the year 2020, Cancer was unheard of 70 years ago. Granted many things could be the cause, but a diet of plants that give tumors to lab animals might just be a darn good hint. The only reason you cannot directly tie it to humans is we don’t eat only GMO’s so it takes a while to build up. But give N. Korea a bunch fo GMO’s and have them only feed that to a group of kids and I would bet a million bucks the results would be the same as the lab animals. Also, the GMO fed lab rats can’t reproduce after a few generations fo eating only GMO’s. Mmmm, yummy anti fertility, cancer foods… Eat up!
LOL, I always love the one about how the rats can’t reproduce. I run a grain elevator and I wish that was true. Why don’t you read the article “Why everyone seems to have cancer”. As far as reproducing seeds, you have seedless grapes and watermelon, neither of which are gmos by today’s standards and have been around for many, many years. For corn and soybeans since we harvest and use the seed then it obviously reproduces. The seeds are live as well since Monsanto sues people that illegally saves and replanted them.
Come on GMO, plants that have pesticides build in at the very least produce a hindrance to bee’s and bugs. Without the pollinating factor, they are pretty much useless in replanting.
None of these arguments will deny the rights of these countries to take responsibility for their environmental stewardship. It’s their land and they can do as they see fit.
You can say all you want about GMO’s or pesticides, bottom line the people are taking a stance by reducing these products within their environment.

I have seen the effect of Farmers environmental practices. Miles and Miles of water lines have been placed for the rural area’s due to pesticide’s polluting the well water and aqua firs.
This is made a burden through higher water costs to the Water utility customers, due to unexpected costs of providing safe water for the rural areas.
Farmers cutting corners or not being able to apply environmental stewardship practices due to expenses incurred through operating in constant debt.
Don’t blame today’s farmers for practices that happened thirty years ago, before these newer methods and controls were in place.

Secondly, no one is stopping the labeling, they are setting it up so it will be regulated just like organic is, that way the label will actually mean something. As far as eating nothing but gmos? I would if there were actually enough different types of plants that were gmo, but in reality very few different species of gmos are on the market today.

You must have pulled too much off the top of your head there billy boy. While gmo wheat does exist, it was never released for commercial production. There are also no gmo oranges, mango’s, or rye. What is available in gmos are: Corn (a lot more than just corn syrup), sugar beets, soybeans, canola, squash, papaya, alfalfa, and cotton. There are also apples, potatoes, bananas, and rice of these while they exist I do not believe that as of yet they are available for purchase. As far as your animal story, if you actually researched this topic it is most likely caused by molds, which everything to do with growing conditions and nothing to do with gmos. As for people switching, strange how we are still planting 90%+ gmo grain crops and it keeps disappearing.

I dont actually like ANY countries, they all have their issues. If it was up to me, I’d buy a tropical island in the Pacific, grow my own food, and not have to suffer under big city pollution, fracking, or pesticides (yes I know “organic” food has them too.) I think we can trace back a lot of the medical issues we face today to a lifestyle that isn’t the way it should be- human overpopulation is the main driving factor. I was reading about how NASA has a 200 year plan to colonize the solar system from 2100 on, now that would be a long term solution to the issues we have on this planet today.

Now, sweet corn that is a different story, I’ve had gmo sweet corn and it is every bit as good if not better than the non gmos, and sprayed with a lot fewer chemicals to boot. As far as meat, I can probably count on one hand the times I have bought beef or lamb in a store. We’ve raised it ourselves, or we purchase it from one of our customers. When the Snowden revelations came out, they were shocking. Also, I invite you to read about HBGary to see what was going on. It’s not that they go door to door yanking people out of their homes, but they use covert means to track people- conservative and liberal alike. Yes, but I love to use food as an example.
