Shocking: Positive Effects of Marijuana on Lungs

Mike Barrett

The federal government claims that marijuana has ‘no accepted medical use’ and continues to classify it in the same category as heroin, MDMA, and PCP. This claim is made by the government despite countless studies existing which highlight its many industrial and medicinal uses. One very recent study sheds light not only on how the plant could be beneficial, but how casual marijuana use doesn’t even lead to lung damage and could even have positive effects on the lungs.

Marijuana Use May Have Positive Effects on Lungs

The study, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, examined 5,115 men and women over the course of two decades – between March 26, 1985 and August 19, 2006. The data also showed that high-use of the plant, about one joint every day for 7 years, had little to no negative impact on lung air flow rates or lung volume. What’s shocking is that there is evidence pointing to slight increases in lung air flow rates as well as enhancements in lung volume from occasional marijuana use – positive effects of marijuana many wouldn’t believe. According to one of the study’s co-authors, Stefan Kertesz:

“With marijuana use increasing and large numbers of people who have been and continue to be exposed, knowing whether it causes lasting damage to lung function is important for public-health messaging and medical use of marijuana…at levels of marijuana exposure commonly seen in Americans, occasional marijuana use was associated with increases in lung air flow rates and increases in lung capacity.”

Yet this is only one more finding to compliment the many past findings regarding the lack of danger and positive aspects of cannabis. Studies have found marijuana use to be beneficial in treating multiple sclerosis, Tourette syndrome, obsessive-compulsive disorder, brachial plexus neuropathies, insomnia, memory disorders, anxiety disorders, cancer, neurodegenerative disease, and many more conditions. Most notably, the plant possesses a significant painkilling effect as well as noticeable improvements in sleep.

Some cannabis activists actually state that certain properties of marijuana can act as a “cure-all” in the right forms. Marijuana low in THC, the active ingredient responsible for psychoactive effects, and high in CBD (cannabidiol), offer the health promoting aspects of cannabis while avoiding the “high”. Although both THC and CBD are considered cannabinoids, CBD acts as a neutralizer and blocks the psychoactive effects of THC. Hemp is a perfect example of a plant containing low or no THC levels and high CBD levels, yet it is still illegal to grow within the United States.

Why is marijuana illegal? Whether individuals choose to use marijuana or hemp should be their choice. There is plenty of information available portraying the positive aspects of these plants, but government censorship still persists. No matter what, being able to use these substances is our given right, and no authority should be able to take that away from us.

I realize this was written a while back, but I feel like it’s important to say you shouldn’t stop using it. Unless you don’t need it anymore. Did you stop using it completely, forever? Why? Because you came back to America? It’s legal in a lot of states. Plus, they really don’t have the right to take that away from you.

I’ve been smoking for about two years now. You can’t “overdose” on Marijuana. The only “overdose” you’ll get is getting extremely high to the point where you get sick. I was a newbie, took a bong hit, and I got sick. But if you smoke the appropriate amount for yourself, you’ll be fine.. It helps me get rid of cramps, and it helps me sleep as I am a huge insomniac. Plus, there’s no evidence that anyone has ever died from it. So I don’t know where these people get the idea that pot is harmful for you. I just believe it’s simply the government wanting to keep dumbing down its citizens. *rolls eyes*

Besides, I live in the States, and the amount of people who don’t do their research and automatically believe it’s bad for you gives me a headache.

That's completely accurate, if the govt keeps greater part of community in lack of knowledge about the important points they will reduce immeasureable dollars. I say this because if a worldwide treat is found for the significant debilitating illnesses such as melanoma, facteires thst produce madication will experience a great loss.

I'm a regular marijuana smoker, I've been doing it since I was 14 and I am currently 16. I have noticed that smoking a joint before studying, after studying and the morning before the test has a positive impact on school grades. Before I used marijuana I was an average student gettin between 45%-55% for most subjects but since using I have had an increase of between 15%-20% in grades. I couldn't believe it so I wrote the last test without the "help of weed" and got a below par 53%…Is this all in the mindset or is it the power of weed?

i would never have believed it. My friend told me that back in H.S. if he had studied for the test while he was "medicated" he would have to smoke the day of the test if he was going to fair well.. Blazin' made him pass the test he said if he had studied for it while blazed. Now I see that it really does open your mind to thoughts and avenues of files, information that other meds do not.

There are 2 reasonss why MJ is ilegal in most countries.

    1. Big Pharma's know it has the potential to cure many things and that scares the hell out of them. A cured patient is a customer lost. This is why they only study to find new treatments but a cure is never found and never will be. Imagine the billions of dollars that will be lost if they gave us a cure for cancer.

    2. Governments don't like it because it makes you think and they don't want you to think because they are constantly trying to dumb us down.

Because of these two reasons MJ will never be legal.

The pharmaceutical industry will lobby, bribe and intimidate law makers in an attempt to stop the legalization of marijuana. Why? Because they are already aware of the medical benefits of marijuana and marijuana is a plant and can not be patented. Also the fact that many medical and psychological problems can be helped with marijuana use scares the heck out of the pharmaceutical industry. Ever notice how we never hear about any cures only expensive and sometimes life long therapeutic regimens. Fascism is the name of the game. Corporations and government working hand in hand to usurp our liberty and turn us into slaves.

I was diagnosed with severe chronic bronchial asthma since birth. I almost died several times from my left lung collapsing/filling up with fluid from phnuemonia. My Father smoked cigarettes in the house which had to come to a stop in order for me to live.

At the age of 30, I was hired to work on a medicinal marijuana film about growing MJ legally in Switzerland. We were all put on a vegan, chemical free diet, and were asked to use Marijuana during the entire process of making this film. I was very worried. I was put on a vaporizer since I had asthma. All my life, I have always had excercize induced asthma along with allergy induced. This means when I walk up a flight of stairs, or jog 1/8 of a mile I would have a severe asthma attack that would lay me out on the ground. The muscle around my broncial tubes was like a snake tightening my main bronchial tube..feels like you are breathing through a tiny straw. An allergy induced attack causes the inner lining of the entire lungs to swell and fill up with fluid. Second hand smoke, perfumes, and chemicals like sulfite sprayed on lettuce cause this to happen to me.

Whithin the first three months of this diet and medicinal program I was on in Switzerland I noticed I wasn't having asthma while walking up flights of stais. I was shocked. The next day I decided to try and jog. I could run 4 miles!!!! I felt like forest Gump in that RUN FOREST RUN scene! I lost 20 lbs in the 9 months I worked for The Green Goddess Movie. At 5'7" I went from 140 to 120. It was the first time I have ever looked healthy.

After returning to America, I continued the vegan diet but was exposed to chemicals in foods. I lived in a state where Mariguana was illegal so I dropped using it daily and went back on my asthma inhalers. I cannot run now once again. I weigh 145 and am back to being the way I used to be. I am very unhappy having to live in a diseased body.

I am writing this article because studies need to be done on this medicinal drug for severe chronic bronchial asthma.
