Chronic Inflammation Causes Virtually All Leading Diseases

Chronic Inflammation Causes

Glancing through the channels of news media and pharmaceutical ads, the overriding impression we have about health is that cancer, dementia, stroke, heart disease, and diabetes are things that simply happen to us. We are simply genetically pre-programmed to get sick at some point past age 40, but this just isn’t true. While genes may play a role in our health quality, many experts agree that chronic inflammation causes virtually all leading diseases due to a poor diet and lack of exercise.

Inflammation in the Body

When we experience an injury, our bodies’ natural response is inflammation. Wendy Weber, a program director at the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, explains: “You need to have inflammation when you have a wound and the immune system goes in to heal it. Yet we don’t want too much inflammation in our system causing damage to our arteries” and the body.

Cat scratches swell on our arms because our bodies are fighting bacteria. Our glands swell when we’re experiencing allergies or a sniffle because it’s fighting irritants or infection. The problem is when the irritants and infection don’t go away—smoking, excess fat in the diet, lack of detoxification of the body through sweat and exercise.

Reducing Inflammation and Risk of Disease

“We’ve learned that abdominal fat tissue is a hotbed of inflammation that pours out all kinds of inflammatory molecules,” says Dr. Peter Libby of Harvard Medical School. Losing excess weight lowers levels of C-reactive protein, an indicator of inflammation. This can be achieved in a matter of weeks.

Another Harvard medical professor, Christopher Cannon, advocates an anti-inflammatory diet—high in whole grains, unsaturated fats, fruits, vegetables, nuts, fish, poultry, eggs, and some dairy.

We’ve already celebrated how turmeric is fantastic at preventing chronic disease and reducing inflammation. In numerous studies, researchers have attributed turmeric with preventing Alzheimer’s, slowing the spread of breast cancer into lungs, and reducing pain and stiffness in osteoarthritis patients. Turmeric even exhibits cancer-blocking properties according to a UCLA study – allowing many individuals to realize that beating cancer with nutrition is indeed possible.

To harness the anti-inflammatory benefits of turmeric, try:

  1. Brewing turmeric tea.
  2. Sprinkling turmeric over deviled eggs, egg salad, or over grilled meat.
  3. Add turmeric to almost any lentil or cauliflower recipe.
  4. Mix turmeric into party dips and serve with raw vegetables.
  5. Try this healthy smoothie: blend or juice half an apple, a teaspoon of local honey, and ¼ teaspoon of turmeric with milk or an unsweetened alternative.
  6. Or, purchase a high quality organic turmeric supplement.

I think this article has a lot of wrong information…….do more research before deciding what to do about inflammation. The dietary recommendations mostly don't make sense.

I don't believe that red meat is bad for you. Unless it is conventional, factory-raised, antibiotic-fed garbage. On the contrary, good quality grass-fed beef is nourishing. I've found that sugar (in all forms including fruit, honey), dairy, and excess carbohydrates (bread, rice, wheat, gluten, potatoes, etc.) are the absolute worst things you can eat if you have inflammation. Grains and legumes are NOT good things to eat, either. So no beer! And good fats are needed – olive oil, coconut oil and avocado oil are the best. Forget other oils.

I've cured a 30 year old asthma problem using Echinacea Tablets (about six a day). Until about a month ago I was on a steroid asthma pump, backed up with a regular pump. The interesting thing is the web is full of horror stories about how dangerous Echinacea is for asthmatics. Considering that asthma is a billion dollar drug industry, I wonder how many of these sites are planted by drug companies, along with their damning Echinacea "research." I'm told asthma is caused by inflammation, an offshoot of a poor immune system. Echinacea promotes a healthy immune system. All I know is that it works for me, and it works well, and it's cheap. I still carry a pump with me. I'm not an idiot. So far I haven't had any cause to use one, and I have every hope matters will stay that way. I'm giving myself six months, pump free, to finally declare this simple little flower cured me.

My understanding is that in asthma the immune system is overactive, not suppressed. That's why prednisone works – for a while. Whatever kind of asthma I have does not come on as attacks, I have it all the time – it's unbearable.

Will try the echinacea, do you know how much of the fresh herb would be the equivalent of your capsules?

The author should now that grilled meat would be a big cause of inflamation so sprinkling turmeric over meat is ridiculous. If you want lower inflamation do not eat meat or dairy. The typical American diet is the main reason so many people in this country are sick compared to other countries that have plant based diets.

I have taken almost 2 pounds of turmeric over the last 3 years to no avail. I have severe persistent asthma ever since taking antibiotics 3 years ago.

The only relief I have gotten has been from cordyceps and that only lasted about 6 weeks and it stopped working.

Is there no way to eliminate this inflammation?

have you investigated going wheat free or glutin restricted? it's actually feels good and not as hard to implement as people make it out to be.

      Windy,

Have you given up dairy? Dairy and wheat can cause lots of problems in some people especially when we get older and have more of a leaky gut. I had chronic back pain for 8 years, and once I stopped dairy cold turkey, I was free of that pain in three days. Cheese is the worst because of the concentrated casein in it. You might give it a try for your asthma. Dairy can cause lots of inflammation in our bodies. Good luck!

Yes I have tried giving up both gluten and dairy (I am a dairy farmer) for several months – it made no difference. No one seems to be able to explain how this combination of antibiotics could trigger this and cause it to last 3 years.

You have candida overgrowth/fungus in your lungs and probably through your digestive tract from the antibiotics. Candida/fungus is very hard to rid of- personal experience. You clear that it will go away.

I always take vitamins and supplements, I wish he said what was wrong with them. I was under the impression that nobody knows if they do any good or not and continually taking them will not harm me anyway.

No pasta or rice? These are bad for you now? I thought these were good for you. Is nothing sacred anymore haha
