The 4 Worst Fast Food ‘Ingredients’ They Don’t Tell You About

From breast implant chemicals to laxatives

Remember back when Burger King was found to be secretly selling horse meat? It sounded concerning at the time, but the reality is that horse meat may be the least of your worries when it comes to dining out on fast food. In fact, some of the ‘meat’ you believe to be eating in the first place may actually be derived from a host of synthetic junk. And that’s just for starters.

Here are 4 of the absolute worst fast food ‘ingredients’ that you have likely never been told about:

1. Breast Implant Chemical Nuggets

Nothing is more appetizing than chowing down on some artificial breast implant chemicals. That’s why McDonald’s has added dimethylpolysiloxane to their already mightily unhealthy Chicken McNuggets — a chemical that is used in silicone breast implants and silly putty. Even the San Francisco Gate news reports:

“…the fast-food chain makes this popular menu item with the chemical preservative tBHQ, tertiary butylhydroquinone, a petroleum-based product. Mcnuggets also contain dimethylpolysiloxane, “an anti-foaming agent” also used in Silly Putty.”

Unsurprisingly, the McDonald’s in Britain does not include this chemical in their McNugget lineup.

2. Synthetic Laxative

Wendy’s Frosty may bring back great memories, however the list of chemicals behind the drink will likely incite something much less nostalgic. Wendy’s Frosty contains the typical ensemble of fast food components such as traditionally-GMO corn syrup, artificial flavorings, and a list of thickening agents. Though of the 14 ingredients it takes to create the fast food top seller, one chemical stands out.

Contained in the Coffee Toffee Twisted Frosty, a laxative chemical and electronic cigarette filler known as propylene glycol is among the 25 new ingredients that make up this special Frosty. To be clear, this is a chemical linked to a host of conditions including neurotoxic effects in children, blood brain barrier issues, and much more. It’s even illegal in cat food.

3. Yoga Mat Chemicals In Your Food?

If you were to use this yoga mat ingredient to produce food in another nation like Singapore, you would face fines up to $450,000 and 15 years in prison. In the United States, you can charge money and market the creation as the McRib. And that’s exactly what McDonald’s did. The McDonald’s McRib not only contains GMOs, deadly chemicals, and harmful fillers, but also an ingredient known as azodicarbonamide. Banned in Australia, Europe, and Singapore, azodicarbonamide is used in the creation of foamed plastics like yoga mats.

The troubling chemical is one of the 70 ingredients that compromise the ‘pork’ in the McRib sandwich.

4. Chemical Medley

Even the salad options at fast food establishments tend to be loaded with a chemical stew that brings into question the ‘healthier’ nature of the food item itself — even in comparison to the burger and fries. Take McDonald’s ‘healthy’ salads, for example. Not only does the ‘cilantro lime glaze’ and the ‘orange glaze’ used on many of these salads contain propylene glycol (the chemical discussed in #2 as the laxative and electronic cigarette filler), but a medley of others on this list as well.

Two chemicals, however, stand out with the salad. Disodium inosinate, and disodium guanylate both divulge the presence of MSG within the ‘healthy’ salad.

It’s impossible to eat a fully 100% organic, 100% clean diet all the time, but it’s extremely simple to begin incorporating high quality organic food choices into your daily nutrition. Don’t be fooled by marketing campaigns launched by fast food establishments advertising their new ‘healthy’ menu options without at least checking out the ingredients list. What’s easier, however, is completely avoiding fast food in the first place.

Propylene glycol (a common food additive) is NOT the same as polyethylene glycol (the laxative.) Mistakes like this make me question the entire article, and make we wonder…. where are you proofreaders? Definitely not a website I will go to for information in the future.

Hey Luke, great catch! The plural of “here are”, would be “here’re”.
However, I do believe you are mistakenly criticizing the author.
The actual article does state, “Here are 4 of the…”, but, it’s the email newsletter and it’s link to this story that say’s “Here’s 4 of the absolute…”
Am I correct? Is this what you are referring to? If I am correct, I’m sure it’s not the author of this article who writes and sends out the email newsletter, but instead, it’s the website’s IT techs who do this. So, that is where the blame lies…but, even if they were using a “spell-check” when they wrote the email newsletter, it wouldn’t have flagged it. That’s because “here’s” is correct. It’s the “context” that’s not correct.
Luke, there are many people, including myself, who have a grammar/spelling “pet peeve”. It’s a damn good way to judge someone’s intellect, and/or opinion.
However, before one “makes a judgement call”, they need to make sure they know what they are talking about or else it can come back and bite you in the arse.
    Just saying.
BTW, this is a very well-written and informative article.

“Here’s 4 of the absolute worst fast food ‘ingredients’ ” Trouble understanding “singular” and “plural”? “Here is 4 ingredients”. Why can’t you write “Here are 4 ingredients”? That damn sidebar is still obstructing the content on the left side of the screen. Other than that, great article. Thanks.
