As the medical establishment begins the annual push for nationwide flu vaccinations, people are starting to voice their opposition to this year’s injection.
A new study from Consumer Reports found that 30% of respondents were unsure if they were going to receive this year’s vaccine, and an additional 30% said they will definitely not be getting the shot. This means 60% of those questioned, which are chosen to represent overall population as accurately as possible, are questioning the effectiveness of the vaccination in some way.
It makes a lot of sense as to why people are rejecting the shot. This year’s shot will also include the H1N1 vaccination, which has been admittedly tied with a deadly nerve disease. Last year, Statistics Canada reported that 60% of Canadians and 80% of Americans refused the H1N1 vaccination.
These percentages are quite large, as last year the media launched an informational crusade against any anti-H1N1 vaccination claims, asserting that the vaccination was perfectly safe. With government officials admitting the link between Guillain-Barre Syndrome and the H1N1 vaccine, the mainstream media’s claims that the vaccine was safe have been proven incorrect once again.
The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) issued a warning regarding the H1N1 swine flu vaccine: Given the uncer tainties in the available information and as with seasonal flu vaccines, a slightly elevated risk of GBS following H1N1 vaccines cannot be ruled out. Epidemiological studies are ongoing to further assess this possible association.
Professor Elizabeth Miller, head of the immunization department for UK’s Health Protection Agency was already fully aware of these risks.
The vaccines used to combat an expected swine influenza pandemic in 1976 were shown to be associated with GBS and were withdrawn from use, she wrote in a warning letter to neurologists.
It is important to research this year’s vaccine, as it is important to research any major health venture, before receiving it. When equipping yourself with adequate amounts of knowledge, it will allow for better decision making.
