The March Against Monsanto has been a major success, generating mass awareness across the nation - Anthony Gucciardi covers the event.

The March Against Monsanto has been a major success, generating mass awareness across the nation and the globe alike as millions marched into the streets of major cities and towns to voice their opposition against Monsanto’s monopoly on the food supply at large. While I was travelling away from my new headquarters in Austin, Texas, I was able to head to the local March Against Monsanto here in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and catch as nearly 1,000 individuals marched right down one of the busiest streets in the city.

I was also able to score a number of interviews with well-known food activists, celebrities, police, and others. I was overwhelmed by the number of activists who funneled into the protest as it went on as well, growing into the thousands like a snowball gaining momentum and size. There was also a great degree of support for NaturalSociety and myself from concerned citizens who were passing out our articles and spreading the word. On more than one occasion, large groups of those passing through came by and asked what the march was all about.

The curious were met with sincere answers, and were warned that they were likely supporting GMO juggernaut Monsanto through eating processed junk and fast food — a company that, as I detailed via a borrowed bullhorn from a protester to the crowd, has been caught running ‘slave-like’ rings in South America to harvest their GMO crops. And that’s not even getting into the peer-reviewed health effects that we know of regarding the consumption of Roundup-drenched GMO foods.

I will be posting more videos throughout today and over the next few days documenting the March Against Monsanto here in Philadelphia and the amazing acts of activism that I was able to record on video with the help of Mike Barrett and other crew members aiding me.

Overall, the March Against Monsanto has been a huge success. Stay tuned for some creative activism concepts here at NaturalSociety that we’ve been working on behind the scenes.

Our collective outcry of ‘NO to GMO’ is working. In hot off the press, Dow AgroSciences is still waiting for permission from regulatory bodies to allow them to plant their highly controversial new weed control system and crops called ‘Enlist.’

Our collective outcry of ‘NO to GMO’ is working. In hot off the press, Dow AgroSciences is still waiting for permission from regulatory bodies to allow them to plant their highly controversial new weed control system and crops called ‘Enlist.’ Ironic isn’t it – after all, we’ve enlisted the help of our friends and neighbors to stare these corporate bullies in the eye and to sit complacent no longer as our food supply is genetically modified to cause cancer, infertility, and organ failure, to kill our bees, and endanger future generations through higher infant mortality rates.

We can’t give up now; it’s starting to work. If one squeaky hinge can’t shut the door, a million of them will shut down the house, the congress, and even the USDA. As U.S. farmers buy seed for this coming season’s crops the Enlist seed has still not been given approval by the feds. This means that the Enlist corn seed which was intended to take the place of Monsanto’s Round Up Ready crops have to wait. Hopefully, as we keep speaking out, those seeds will be disposed of instead of planted. They are just the first of a planned panoply of GMO seed including Enlist soybeans and Enlist cotton. Just what we need, more GM soybeans and cotton…and corn.

Critics who have helped to delay this particular genetically modified crop are arguing that spraying will only make weeds more resistant and grow in more profusion. If you want to complain about more than just weeds – tell your Congress, your President, the FDA, and your Facebook friends. Share this article. Pin it, post it, shout it out. Our protests are working. And guess what – your salmon and meat are the next GMOs in the master plan, so we need to nip this in the bud now.

Some of the simplest ways to change your health and environmental impact are actually cheaper than the traditional way of doing things. Here are 4 ways to "greening up" your kitchen, and subsequently, your house.

A healthy kitchen begins with healthful foods, but it certainly doesn’t end there. We spend a lot of time focusing on which foods you should keep stocked and which are best to toss, but there are other factors at play in keeping your kitchen as healthy and as “green” as possible.

You don’t have to own rare, organically made flooring or a huge budget to start making changes in your kitchen. As a matter of fact, some of the simplest ways to change your health and environmental impact are actually cheaper than the traditional way of doing things.

Here are 4 ways to “greening up” your kitchen, and subsequently, your house.

1. Get Rid of Disposables

Stop purchasing disposable plastics for food storage and stop using the ones you already have today. The majority of these plastics are made with BPA or potentially just-as-harmful alternatives. Use the ones already in your house for craft supplies or to hold clothespins. But don’t use them for food. Instead of plastics, use glass. You can purchase glass food storage containers or you can buy an entire case of canning jars for the same purpose. Not only are glass jars super cost-effective, they make your food look pretty. For reference, check out Mike Barrett’s mini-guide on safe and harmful plastics, and what the recycling numbers on the bottom of plastic containers mean.

2. Start Composting

If you’re like most Americans, you throw away a lot of food, maybe even enough to feed another person or an entire family. Start making this food waste work for you. Composting isn’t too difficult and requires minimal tools—even a large plastic tote will work. The rich results can be used on your own garden or donated to a local community garden.

3. Clean out Your Cleaning Supplies

The vast majority of modern soaps and cleansers are a toxic slew of chemicals. They may make your floor sparkle, but at what cost? Phthalates, for instance, are a common ingredient and are known endocrine disruptors. Simple things you already have in your kitchen can do it without releasing fumes while tackling some pretty tough cleaning jobs. Try a mixture of vinegar, lemon juice, and warm water on your floors, or baking soda for scouring jobs like the sink. Here are 5 natural home cleaning products to replace your toxic household cleaners.

4. Conserve

The kitchen of your home likely has a greater impact than does any other room in the house. Learn to take small steps that conserve both water and electricity. Soak rather than spray dishes, for instance. Covering your pots can cut down on the amount of time it takes to cook, and therefore the amount of electricity you use. Many of us have a habit of leaving the stove light or the sink light on all day; shut all lights off when you aren’t in the room.

You don’t have to suffer serious inconvenience or even budget setbacks in order to make green-changes to your kitchen. The food you keep inside aren’t the only things that could be affecting your health.

There is bountiful research that links fruit and veggies with numerous benefits, including a reduced risk of heart disease, better vision, and now, breast cancer prevention.

Carrots aren’t only a good introduction to the world of vegetables, they are a powerful health food. There is bountiful research that links these root veggies with numerous benefits, including a reduced risk of heart disease, better vision, and now, breast cancer prevention.

According to researchers from Harvard Medical School, the anticancer benefits of carrots are found in carotenoids—active beneficial compounds that give many vegetables their rich colors.

Harvard scientists found that women who have higher carotenoid levels in their blood have a lower risk of breast cancer when compared with those women who have lower carotenoid levels.

The study abstract concluded with:

“This comprehensive prospective analysis suggests women with higher circulating levels of α-carotene, β-carotene, lutein+zeaxanthin, lycopene, and total carotenoids may be at reduced risk of breast cancer.”

Their findings, which can be seen in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, came from eight different trials involving 3,000 women with breast cancer and 4,000 without.

“We have said if we want to reduce the risk of cancer—not just breast cancer—eating a plant-based diet low in fat and animal protein may help,” said Dr. Stephanie Bernik, Lenox Hill Hospital Chief of Surgical Oncology. “This study, like others, suggests this is the case.”

As Dr. Bernik said, this isn’t the first research to suggest such a carotenoid-cancer prevention link. Researchers with Boston University found that cruciferous vegetables including carrots can help lower the risk of breast cancer overall.

Their study, part of the Black Women’s Health Study, initially focused on ER-negative breast cancer, a cancer common among African-American women. They found that these vegetables not only reduced that cancer, but other forms of breast cancer as well.

Carotenoids, like those that give carrots their orange (and sometimes red or purple) hue, work to enhance immune function, promote proper communication between cells, and increase antioxidant activity. These benefits all play an important role for fighting a variety of diseases, including cancer.

To get the very most anti-cancer benefits of carrots, you want to make sure you consume them with dietary fats. Carotenoids are fat-soluble, meaning they need dietary fats to be processed and absorbed by the body. Try eating them in your salad with olive oil or avocados (both valuable sources of dietary fats). If you cook them, do so lightly in a bit of olive or organic coconut oil. Interestingly, boiling whole carrots could increase the concentrations of some compounds, like falcarinol, by 25%. Boiling sliced carrots, however, could have the opposite, negative effect.

Senators in Washington D.C. voted against a key GMO labeling amendment to the Farm bill. One that would have allowed states to decide to label GMOs.

In yet another showing of their lack of concern towards the people who give them their jobs, Senators in Washington D.C. voted against a key GMO labeling amendment to the Farm bill. One that would have allowed states to decide to label the presence of genetically modified ingredients in food products.

They didn’t just vote it down, they did it overwhelmingly: 71 to 27. Let’s be clear—this wasn’t a bill that would have mandated the labeling of foods with genetically modified ingredients. No, it was far less provocative. This measure would have simply said it was okay for states to decide to do that for themselves.

“The concept we’re talking about today is a fairly commonsense and non-radical idea,” said the amendment’s sponsor, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) according to the Huffington Post. “All over the world, in the European Union, in many other countries around the world, dozens and dozens of countries, people are able to look at the food that they are buying and determine through labeling whether or not that product contains genetically modified organisms.”

Vermont and more-recently Connecticut have both decided to label foods in their state. But they are concerned big-wigs like Monsanto will sue, particularly in light of this failure of a decision in the Senate.

One of the many senators who voted against what would seem to be commonsense and non-radical, Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.) says that labeling GMO foods runs counter to what we “know” about them. This knowledge, she says, is that GMO foods are safe, no more dangerous than their “conventional counterparts.”

Apparently ignoring any of the research that runs to the contrary of that being put out by Monsanto-supporters, Sen. Stabenow talks about GMO crops as if they are the answer to the world’s prayers. That they are able to “resist crop diseases and improve nutritional content.” Stabenow and others like her must be getting their briefs directly from those within Monsanto itself.

Even more telling about where her (and others like her) allegiances lie, Stabenow said labeling GMO ingredients would “interfere with the FDA’s science-based process to determine what food labeling is necessary for consumers.” In other words, if it doesn’t come from Monsanto or the FDA, she doesn’t want to hear it.

She doesn’t want to hear about the study that showed GMO-fed rats developed mass tumors and died premature deaths. Senators like her don’t seem to care that research has shown GMO corn to be a contributor to the obesity epidemic. Apparently, studies linking GMO crops to lung damage, cancer, organ damage, and immune suppression aren’t “good enough” for the FDA, so they aren’t “good enough” for lawmakers.

The fact is, most processed foods on our store shelves contain GMO ingredients (usually corn or soy). Another fact, most conscientious consumers would like to know which foods are safe and which are not. But, with their decision to not grant states the right to decide for themselves, lawmakers have shown us (once again) where their loyalties lie.

Over 800 esteemed scientists have spoken out against GMOs, calling for the end of the GMO 'experiment' on the population.

Did you hear about the 800 esteemed scientists who came together and demanded the production of genetically modified crops and products be stopped? Scientists who called on world powers to re-evaluate the future of agriculture and seek sustainability rather than corporate profits? Don’t be surprised if you haven’t, as the mainstream media won’t touch this one.

Eight-hundred scientists did make such a demand. They made it first over a decade ago and they have updated it over the years, adding signatures and release dates. Still global powers have all but ignored their calls.

The Institute of Science in Society is a non-profit group of scientists from around the world, dedicated to bringing an end to what they refer to as the “dangerous GMO “experiment. In their open letter to the world, they have highlighted why governments need to stop genetically modified crops now – before there are irreversible effects on the health of the people and the health of the earth at large.

The Open Letter from World Scientists to All Governments calls for “the immediate suspension of all environmental releases of GM crops and products, both commercially and in open field trials, for at least 5 years.”

They also want patents on organisms, cell lines, and living things revoked and banned. Such patents (a sort of corporate version of “playing God,”) “threaten food security, sanction biopiracy of indigenous knowledge and genetic resources, violate basic human rights and dignity, compromise healthcare, impede medical and scientific research and are against the welfare of animals.”

And as Anthony Gucciardi recently detailed on NaturalSociety, this would be bad news for Monsanto following the recent Supreme Court decision that they have the ‘right’ to patent life.

Scientists Speaking Out

In the beginning, after its first draft in 1999, the letter had just over 300 signatures. Since then, it’s grown significantly. At the writing of this article, the document has 828 signatures representing 84 different countries.

While we are told by Monsanto and the FDA that GMOs are nothing to worry about and instead safe tools for the future of agriculture, a growing number of esteemed scientists seem to disagree. So, who’s listening?

The letter has been presented to numerous governments and organizations, including the U.N. Commission on Sustainable Development, the U.N. Convention on Biological Diversity, the World Trade Organization, and yes, even the U.S. Congress. The letter has been shared at these venues, but it doesn’t seem like anyone was listening.

The populous has to dig for information like this. We have to seek out the news sources willing to cover it, because we won’t hear about this letter on the nightly news or through a governmental agency. No, the U.S. government wants you to fear what they want you to fear (“terror” and crime, for instance), but they certainly don’t want you to fear the information and the food they are putting on your table. Or the GMOs they are funding with your taxpayer dime.

There can be many underlying reasons for a belly ache, including a hiatal hernia and Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), but don’t worry – there are natural remedies for these discomforts.

Here are 5 natural stomach ache remedies to replace your pharmaceutical solutions.

5 Natural Stomach Ache Remedies

1. Fennel Seeds – These seeds have been used by numerous cultures for centuries to aid digestion and prevent bloating and gas. They are rich in magnesium, and also act as an antacid and breathe freshener. They also stimulate bile production in the liver, so you can start to rid the body of any unwanted fats in the meals you consume.

2. Peppermint Oil Belly Rub – As said by some people on EarthClinic, peppermint oil can ease bowel spasms, as well as refresh a tired mind (which often happens after over-eating). Mentha Peperita (another name for peppermint) is also full of vitamins A and C, offers Omega 3 fatty acids, and contains potassium, manganese, iron, magnesium, copper, and calcium. Used as an expectorant or rubbed on the belly to ease stomach cramps and digestive discomfort, peppermint oil is excellent for curing an upset stomach.

3. Alfalfa – This herb, also called Lucerne is derived from a legume much like a pea. It can aid in digestion greatly due to the high number of digestive enzymes it contains.

4. Comfrey Root – The bulk of comfrey root works in the intestines to help clear out remnants of digested food, and its mucilage even helps to heal ulcers. Comfrey root can also help destroy intestinal parasites. But comfrey helps with more than just digestion. It is also an emollient, a refrigerant (meaning it alleviates fever or thirst), a diuretic (by helping to stimulate the kidneys), a demulcent (it smoothes the mucous membranes on contact). It can help heal skin wounds and help to stop excessive bleeding. Its one herb that helps with belly aches, and a hundred other things.

5. Go For a Walk to Aid Digestion – When you eat a big meal, walking it off can be one of the best things you can do to aid digestion and prevent stomach aches. It can be a brief walk, but make it brisk, so that you can still breathe easily while ambling along.

Of course there are many, many more stomach ache remedies out there. So don’t forget to share which home remedies for upset stomach you’ve had success with and which ones haven’t worked for you. Everyone is a bit different!

China has destroyed a total of at least three genetically modified corn shipments with origins from the United States in a major anti-GMO move.

China has destroyed a total of at least three genetically modified corn shipments with origins from the United States in a move that echoes the way in which the nation of Hungary actually went and destroyed acres upon acres of Monsanto’s GMO corn fields. Interestingly enough, my article on that subject became one of the most widely shared articles in recent years across the web thanks to the rising number of individuals who are behind the elimination of GMOs across the globe.

And I suspect this move by China will be met with similar applause, as it represents a direct stand against Monsanto — the company that is literally being funded with your taxpayer dollars and directly marketed by the US State Department. Even Reuters and others reported on the leaked information, and journalists were in complete shock when the news came out. The reality explains not only why the US government continues to approve and outwardly support Monsanto’s GMOs despite being linked to a number of serious health conditions, but also explains why the US threatened ‘military style trade wars‘ against those who oppose Monsanto.

It’s becoming increasingly clear that Monsanto’s major connections in government, like FDA head Michael Taylor, are lending aid to the GMO crusade in ways that even surprise me.

And perhaps what’s most interesting with this situation here is that China has essentially acted against the US by destroying these crops — crops that the US government pushes on nations, targeting those who defy Monsanto. It’s arguably more of an act against the US than sending a naval battleship closer to US soil! It shows the true priorities of many US government officials, who could care less about public health if it stands in the way of megalomania expansion.

Regardless of even why the Chinese are destroying these shipments, which is listed as a crackdown on GMO shipments that aren’t even following basic approval protocol, you can expect US officials (especially the State Department individuals) to be in uproar for Monsanto. As detailed from the GMWatch website and reported by Sayer Ji of GreenMedInfo:

The law says that the [Chinese] Ministry of Agriculture must require environmental and food safety tests to be carried out by Chinese institutions, in order to verify data provided by the seed developer. All these documents must be reviewed by the National Biosafety Committee before the MOA can issue a safety certificate. Yet these shipments of US corn did not have the relevant safety certificates and approval documents, according to the news reports below.

When even China has the will to destroy Monsanto’s GMOs, you know there’s something wrong with officials in the US who sit idly by as millions consume Monsanto’s Roundup-drenched GMO foods on a daily basis. Thankfully, action is being taken at warp speed. We have the March Against Monsanto taking place in just 2 days, and we have more support than ever for exposing the corrupt GMO giant and GMO infestation at large.

A well-intentioned October 13, 2004 report in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) entitled “Post Licensure Safety Surveillance for 7-Valent Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine” was intended to increase closer scrutiny of vaccines after they are on the market. However well-intentioned, though, the perspective is from M.D.s who honor the holy medical sacrament of vaccines.

Wyeth Pharmaceutical’s pneumococcal conjugate (PCV) vaccine’s strongly recommended inoculation schedule begins at two months of age and is repeated four times by the time the child reaches 15 months of age. And another can be added by 25 months of age if warranted by certain immune disorders.

That’s quite a load of toxic chemicals and “attenuated” live pathogens to be injected in a short time into anyone without a fully developed immune system, or even with a fully developed immune system!

Parsing Some of the Report

Some of the report’s statements deserve commentary from someone who doesn’t worship at the alter of vaccination religion. Each line from the report will be in italics with quotation marks followed by commentary.

“A total of 4154 reports of events following PCV were submitted to VAERS, (Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System) for a rate of 13.2 reports per 100,000 doses distributed.”

Keep in mind that even the CDC estimates only 5 percent of all vaccine adverse events are reported to VAERS. It’s a voluntary program, unlike other nations that require adverse reaction reports. So the reports used for the JAMA report was only a small portion of the real adverse events.

This JAMA report was two years after the PCV jabs started and included only America’s PCV vaccinations. Most parents aren’t aware of VAERS and don’t know about the connections between a vaccination and sudden paralysis, seizures, agonizing pain, autistic spectrum disorders, or SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome. (Paralysis is one of many intense H1N1 vaccine side effects, for example).

Many doctors are too busy to report or would rather not admit they’ve administered an injurious shot. Long term ill health that develops later in life is even more rarely connected to vaccinations by MDs, parents, or adults who have received multiple vaccinations.

“There were 117 deaths, and 34 cases of invasive pneumococcal infections possibly representing vaccine failure.”

That’s quite a few deaths for kids who probably didn’t make it to the age of two. And maybe the infections weren’t indications of vaccine failure, but causation from the vaccine’s live attenuated streptococcal bacteria. That isn’t even considered in the report, though should be recognized at least as a possibility.

“Immune-mediated events occurred in 31.3% of reports.”

Immune mediated – a nice phrase for someone’s immune system over-reacting and attacking the person, causing auto-immune diseases.

“Neurologic symptoms occurred in 38% of reports.”

The term ‘neurologic symptom’s could refer to those of ADD, autism, or GBS. Another important bit to consider.

“Seizures described in 393 reports included 94 febrile seizures.”

Many of those seizures tend to introduce paralysis.

Conclusion

The report illustrates mainstream medicine’s cavalier attitude with vaccine injuries, even among decent doctors with real concerns.

This can’t be over emphasized – the 5 percent of actual adverse events reported to VAERS represents only the tip of an iceberg of vaccine-related injuries, many of which are more gruesome than the medical terminologies used in the JAMA report. Then there are those pesky deaths.

Many health experts and MDs have gone on record (not carried by mainstream) stating vaccines don’t confer immunity. Instead they disturb the natural immune system and compromise immunity, possibly for life.

Thanks to Internet publications, we can finally be made aware of the (at least) possible link between vaccine and disease – not to mention vaccine inefficiency. Be wary of pediatricians and others vilifying parents for avoiding childhood vaccinations when there are indeed real concerns to be considered.

There are numerous studies available that showcase the effects broccoli can have on cancer cells and tumors. Most of them are connected to the compound sulforaphane, which has been found to fight cancer cells while not damaging surrounding healthy cells. The same can be said for the compound lycopene found in tomatoes. But as effective as the compounds are by themselves, one study published in the Journal of Cancer Research has actually found that when used together, they become a virtual anti-cancer superpower.

The Power of Broccoli and Tomatoes

“When tomatoes and broccoli are eaten together, we see an additive effect,” explained John Erdman, University of Illinois food science and human nutrition professor. “We think it’s because different bioactive compounds in each food work on different anti-cancer pathways.”

Erdman and colleagues conducted their research on laboratory rats, implanting them with cancerous prostate cells(scary thought, I know). Then the rats were fed various diets. Some were fed 10% tomato powder and 10% broccoli powder, while others were given only tomato powder, or only broccoli powder. Some were only given lycopene and some were given the prostate drug finasteride. Finally, the last group was castrated.

The group of rats that experienced the most benefit was those rats who received both broccoli and tomato powders. Their prostate tumors shrunk significantly more than the other groups.

The researchers say that men would need to eat about 1.4 cups of raw broccoli and 2.5 cups of fresh tomatoes to get the same benefits.

According to the American Cancer Society, about one-in-six men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during their lifetime. It is the second leading cause of cancer death in the United States, behind only lung cancer. About 1 man in 36 men will die of this type of cancer.

While traditional-medicine will tell you “early detection” is crucial to survival, prevention is an even better solution.

Foods like broccoli and tomatoes are far more affordable than cancer treatment, and a diet that prevents cancer is simultaneously the diet that prevents ailments like type 2 diabetes, heart disease, obesity, and much more. In other words, eating healthful can prevent disease – period.

The research linking broccoli alone to cancer prevention and treatment is bountiful, but you won’t likely get a prescription from your doctor to the farmer’s market. This kind of healthcare is the sort you need to take on yourself. Don’t wait to start eating healthfully, you will thank yourself later.
