Not answering a question on a reddit ama is hardly "dodging a question" you sorry excuse for a journalist. Bill Gates has saved roughly 6 million lives in third world countries since 2007 through his philanthropic donations and organizations, arguably more than any other person in human history. I'm not standing up for his investment in monsanto and cargill because they do suck (although there has been no evidence of these investments after 2010) I'm simply stating the fact that he has dedicated his life and the majority of his wealth to helping the poor. He's a strong proponent of GMO's because he knows it's the only way we will be able to sustain global food demands in the not so distant future. Crazy conspiracy theorists like you are an embarrassment to the progressive movement and I put you in the same category as religious extremists on the right who blindly follow other irrational sources around the web, all quoting each other, but never looking towards the experts for the facts. Here's a relevant ted talk that puts it into perspective...not that any of you nuts will actually watch it: www.youtube.com/watch?v=7OMLSs8t1ng

Anthony's post on reddit accumulated only 100 upvotes. The comments that rose to the top were around 2000-4000, and were the ones that Bill Gates most likely saw. If you are at all familiar with reddit, you would understand why it is more likely that Bill Gates didn't see the comment.

Over here in the UK there's a lot of awareness of the risks of GMO foods. We are going to fight to keep this frankengarbage out of our food chain. The French study GMO/cancer row among other studies.countries that OUTRIGHT BAN this stuff,Peru,Poland,Algeria,Ireland,Saudi Arabia etc tells all.Tony Blair tried to push this crap on us when he was in office when at the same time insisted on organic only produce used in the House of Commons eateries. We have no confidence in this 'stuff'.

I think Gates and the others believe sincerely that they are trying to save human lives and improve the human condition. It just may turn out that the means they've chosen do exactly the opposite. Falling crop yields and crop failures show that the 'science' behind GMO foods from Monsanto is non-science, in that the research is being done as a giant beta test on the Earth and humanity, and the results are just beginning to trickle in. While the effect on Monsanto's bottom line is positive, at least to date, the benefit to farmers and consumers is dubious at best - - perhaps a short-term perceived benefit followed by lifetimes of polluted genes, crops, soils. I think the solution to world hunger, aside from fairer distribution, is to have less mouths to feed rather than an ever-expanding, environmentally unsustainable program of endless growth - - a scenario that is inevitably going to end in a massive population crash anyway.

"Then why did the employees at Monsanto want gmo foods taken from their own cafeteria"

The link you provided *does not say that*.

The link says that a catering company that provided food to Monsanto *and many other companies* stopped providing GMOs to *all their customers*.

It does not say anything about any Monsanto employee wanting GMOs removed from their cafeteria!
