There is a link between cancer and Aspartame in rats, but at consumption levels of 20mg/kg body weight. This works out at around two thirds a jar of my artificial sweetner, which takes me usually two to three weeks to get through.

I found however that the article is not very well referenced, and makes unfounded claims about a study that links aspartame to cancer. Although it does not reference the study, I managed to find it anyway, and the study is not actually about Aspartame, but is about "Consumption of artificial sweetener- and sugar-containing soda", so it's about soda in general, not aspartame specifically.

Sugar in itself is really bad for you in many ways, this has been scientifically proven. Also anything can be bad for you in large enough quantities – the lethal dose of water is 80 glasses in one hour. But as for Aspartame, it is still the most highly tested food additive on the market, and it's still out there on the shelves. I have to have a little faith in our government that they are not trying to poison us all!

There's a hell of a lot of misinformation about artificial sweetners, and I really don't know why, (maybe stuff put out by the sugar industries?) but I'll continue to be cautious about what I eat and maybe I will try to cut down a little, just to be on the safe side.
